Stonehaven CAMC
We are thinking of going to the above site for a few nights in May. We have never been to this one before can those who have been offer any opinion and advice on the site. Is there plenty to do in the area also what are the roads to the site like are they Ok for towing we will be coming from Glasgow area.

The roads are fine. It's a large town and lorries visit it so you'll have no problem. You certainly won't be the first person to tow a caravan there.
The site is on the edge of town adjacent to the coast. I seem to remember a leisure centre/pool next door to the site.
It has modern facilities and no down side that I can recall. Try it and see.

Terrible site, roads are awful, nothing to do near the site - will do anything to keep you all away so we can easily book when we feel like a few days away😂

The site is very good, fairly new, nice big pitches, but a little exposed to the wind off the sea, which is only to be expected as it is right on the sea front.
I would not describe Stonehaven as a large town as far as the town centre goes, but there are plenty of interesting local shops and a good bus service to Aberdeen and to the south. There is quite a lot of newish housing as people have moved out of Aberdeen when house prices were much higher.
If you want to explore the coast and visit Aberdeen it is ideal. If you are more looking to explore further up Deeside, then Banchory is probably the better site to use.

Truely terrible roads (as shown on any good map, or Google)! Motorway runs out at Perth and you have to put up with a dual carriageway all the way to Stonehaven, and even worse the last half mile is a B-class road right up to the site gate!
Seriously, if you have not looked at a map you won't know not to take the first junction going north that is signed for Stonehaven, which would require driving through the town. Much simpler to take the third exit from the dual carriageway for Stonehaven. It is after passing under the railway bridge. Then only that half mile of B-class road to worry about.

Like Francis, we are thinking about a visit to Stonehaven during our Scotland tour in May/June. Only concern is whether there is suitable dog walk from site. Our Labrador needs a good “off lead” run morning and evening and looking on Google maps doesn’t seem to be any good running area nearby apart from the beach. Can any of you good folks who know Stonehaven advise if there is anywhere to run “Charlie” if the tide happens to be in !

Francis, one of my favourite Scottish sites. As folk say right by the sea, good walk along the sea front down to the harbour then back up through the town to the site. Good fish and chip shop on the sea front with a nice ice-cream parlour next door what's not to like. A drive up to Dunnottar Castle is well worth it as is Aberdeen. If you have the time to fit in a few days at Banchory (we usually do both) you won't be disappointed. Can't say we've ever felt that the site was crowed even when its been full, plenty of space around pitches and good site roads.

Dunnotar Woods is a short drive (or walk) and great for dogs. Quick drive down to Inverbervie and there is a fabulous walk along the side of the North Sea, again great for dogs 🐕, plus lots more which search of the area will show you.

Nothing wrong with the site, but Stoney (as it's referred to locally) itself doesn't have much to offer unless your visit coincides with one of the various festivals that take place there. It does have easy connections to Aberdeen and Banchory.
I'd look upon Stoney as a base to visit the local area rather than a destination in itself. There are plenty of things to do in Aberdeen, but the difficulty is finding out about them! Also be aware of the roadworks for the Aberdeen bypass which are taking place in the area.

On the full site at Easter weekend, having been here before the site or site staff do not disappoint in any way in fact the wardens enhance the experience. There have been a problem on the site with power outages caused by overloading. I am an Electrical Engineer with substantial experience in caravan Site electrical installations and the problem is not of the wardens making. The problem is with the members using electrics for everything, and although they have "paid for it" we need to recognise that it is not practical or cost effective for the Club to install a new transformer and switchgear to cope. The caravan manufacturers load the vans with all the nice little touches which we all desire without a thought for how they will deliver them on site.
when these outages happen they will probably be resolved by the members acting as a Club and simply putting their heater and water heating onto gas and heat the kettle on gas and the reduction in the load will be sufficient to allow the fridge and TVs etc to be enjoyed
