Site of the Week: Burrs Country Park Club Site
Relaxing on the river, countryside walks, enjoying contemporary art or a trip on the nostalgic East Lancashire Steam Railway is all a possibility if you're staying at our Site of the Week, Burrs Country Park Club Site.

Was there in late November. Thought is was a great location, in the middle of a restored cotton mill with steam railway running by. Local pub just outside the entrance. A short walk into Bury, about 20 mins. Bury has the biggest market I have ever seen in the uk. Also a tram will take you right into the middle of Manchester for £4 return.
Only downside is the last 100yds or so into the site is over the original street cobbles. That will definitely keep your speed down
Going back next year for longer.

We liked the site when we stayed there. We took the bus which is not too far from the entrance. I imagine the railway halt near the campsite is open now which ads another way of getting into Bury and beyond. Would certainly go back.

Great site. Good watching the steam trains pass by, all the passengers wave. Nice pub on the doorstep. When we stayed there was a wedding and marquee at the pub, but not a problem. The wedding had a band playing great pop and rock till 10.30pm, not too loud but nice accompaniment to the evening.

Great part of the world ...... I live 5 mins walk from the site! 😉
Not sure about relaxing by the River Irwell at this time year though ..... a bit cold for me, but you do get kayaks going over the wiper. 😉 Rather than turning left to Bury at Brandlesholme Rd, turn right & head towards Ramsbottom (there isn't a Upper Ramsbottom 😁), more places to eat than you could shake a hairy stick at. You could even take a walk up to Peel Tower on Harcles Hill, otherwise known as Holcombe Tower on Holcombe Hill. Various times you can climb the steps inside to the top ..... after you've had a breather from climbing up the hill. At least the Hare & Hounds or The Shoulder of Mutton are close by.
The road at the entrance has recently been properly repaired too.

We are off to Burrs next week, looking forward to visiting Bury Market, and seeing the steam trains.
Only downside is that Metrolink don't allow dogs on the trams, we will have to drive or take the bus which may take a while when we visit son in Manchester.

The only CC site we have been to more than once - in fact three times. We get a taxi for under a fiver to the tram station and then a short ride into the centre of Manchester. Great steam railway around the site - now with its own stop, I believe.

Brue - how did you miss the farm as you drive towards the cobbled part of the road on approach to the site entrance. It's on the left.
This is a site which is 'local' for me to enjoy a break on my own and I use it at least a couple of times a year; in fact I'll be there for a week from Sunday 28th January so call in for a cuppa.
As already said, it's a pleasant walk through the park into town; there's a good Tesco within walking distance, an excellent market, and the pub at the site entrance does good food.
You can now catch the train at the newly opened station at the site.

I'll be there shortly after noon and usually go up to pitches around 67 - 68. I'll have my little Mazda on this occasion as the tow car is needed at home during the week. I'm in a Lunar Quasar 462 - on an awning pitch but I doubt I'll put an awning up this time. You're welcome to say hello and have a coffee or something.
I shall keep my eyes open for you too.

Thanks Jill, not sure where we will be pitched, not been to the site before.Our van is an affinity 554 and we have an Freelander. You may also spot us walking our Border Collie.

Take it slowly on the approach to the site, it's a cobbled road and you could end up with all your pots and pans all over the floor. The area immediately before the site barrier was in a bad state too and there were road workings there when I was at the site in October.

I find driving faster smooths out the cobbles
but I'm not towing. 😊The road at entrance has eventually been repaired properly, the pot holes just kept being filled in but the 'repair' lasted just weeks. They've also taken the last corner off a little ..... presumably longer outfits were cutting the corner off.

we stayed at this some time ago and would not recommend walking from the site to the town centre unless you are in a group as two young men attempted to relieve us of our property [mugging]its called we faced them down and they backed off taking the section of steel pipe used as a weapon with them needless to say O H will not go to this site ever again it is a shame as it is a nice site and you can walk into the next town an get a train back into bury which is famous for its market

I'm sure that could have happened anywhere .... at least the site doesn't need high fences and barbed wire like some sites 😉 Where did this take place? Woodhill Rd or the old railway line? The path along the old line is a little out of the way ....

Goodness! I'm an OAP and have walked down Woodhill Road, over the river, through the park, under a bridge to the back of Tesco loads of times on my own and never ever felt at risk before.

Thank you for the advice regarding dogs not being allowed on trams. It's always helps to know well beforehand of what and what not to expect, especially regarding transport as I am a motorhomer and don't tend to use the van once I have parked up at a site. Burrs sounds very good so I may try it later on in the year when the weather has warmed up a little
