Edinburgh Club Site pitches
Hi all, on looking to book a club site it's showing hard standing without awning fully booked for next weekend but showing my dates are avaliable for a hard standing with awning. What's the difference between a awning and non awning pitch and is there a price difference.
I have went ahead and booked a hard standing with awning pitch although I will not be using an awning. Is this acceptable ?

It probably means they have very few, non-awning pitches, Doug, so just a few bookings will see them full.
RJLJ is absolutely correct in what he/she tells you.

There's no difference in price per pitch, and the one that takes an awning is larger than one without. Of course it is acceptable to book an awing pitch even if you have no intention of putting up an awning. Enjoy your stay, Doug.

when you don't put an awning up it is usually possible to put your car where your awning should be (well not that close) if that suits you better, but it's best to ask the wardens. I always have and never been refused yet.
Post edit, just ignore that - I've just noticed you have a motor home, unless you have a car as well?

It's what I always do!!! Usually non awning pitches can be the same size but its the spacing around the pitch in relation to neighbouring pitches that dictate whether a pitch is awning or not. Non awning pitches, with a few exceptions, are usually in the minority on most sites.

Conversely, even on a non-awning pitch, you would be ably to deploy a MH canopy where the car would normally be parked, without infringing fire regs. Unless you haver a TOAD, of course.

And Edinburgh allows 9am. arrivals too !

yes, ET, interesting one that...on the website it doesnt say the departure time.....8am perhaps.....?
or are they happy to let customers just come on and fill empty spaces?
what about a 9am arrival when its full on a weekend or BH....does the warden kick off someone who's still in bed?

I always assumed it was because there were no issues re places to wait if no spaces are available. There is space for a few near reception and if there were more, turning is easy and there is plenty of on road parking close by at the end of marine drive.

...but you cant put 'earliest arrival 9am' in the book/website if it really means 'earliest arrival 9am provided space available'...
if this is really what it means, surely all sites should be like this....get folk on as early as possible....if space is available.
im sure guests arent charged an extra fee for being 3 hrs earlier than on most sites, I'd certainly like to be able to arrive earlier, in lieu of staying later.....

It's interesting one, it's not new this year or anything and I wonder how it works in practice, I'm staying there later this year (first time on that site) so I'll see for myself. I won't be arriving till after noon anyway
No the cost is from whenever you arrive on your first day.

We've used the site a fair few times, I'm pretty sure the arrival has always been 9 am.
Doesn't seem to be a problem with this site as the access is good and when we've been there, plenty of pitches to choose from on arrival.
How it would work during the Edinburgh festival or at Hogmanay I'm not sure.
White Water Park used to have a 10 am arrival, not sure if that's still the same though.
Edit: trying to get through Edinburgh for a 9 am arrival could be interesting

Thanks all for your replies & info. Yes I also noticed the 9am arrival time and thought this was just for during the winter/quieter months. Looking forward to this weekend at Edinburgh C&M club site as this is our first in the motorhome in the winter months.
Weather forecast this week is for snow 🤭

just out of interest starting watching a few of these videos on how to survive in 'RV's in Northern Canada. One chap said he up rated his RV electrics from 40A to 100A!!! Runs a washer/drier in their 'tiny' as they called it caravan. makes our discussion on using 16A seem small?
