The car is my own business because I own it and pay the cost of running it whilst doing deliveries. The tips are my own business because the customer is paying the money to me. However, the rest of it is Pizza Hut's business i.e. hours of work, wages, drop money etc. The means to change has come from the type of work I have chosen to do.

How do you know why a thread is closed

Because we are often given a reason

The charging places map was very interesting. Looking at the ones around us, the majority are in places that you cannot go unless you are a visitor or a customer. Hotels, work places and an expensive hospital car park. So hardly user friendly, if you were looking for a fast charge while onroute. There is one at the local Asda, so that one would be OK.

The number certainly need expanding in more public places for it to be viable for more than home to work and local shopping. Which would enable you to charge only at home,

David, there is now another new discussion area about EVs and it would be good to see those who are interested contributing their points of view in the new area rather than triplicating over three areas as at present. This would leave space on the social threads for other people and general chat?

    Brue

I just hope those concerned are reading your post. It seems to be that many of the posts in this thread are a long way from where you intended it to be. Perhaps people don't appreciate that they can start new threads in General Chat?

David. Yes the thread has strayed from my original intentions to steer clear of certain over repeated topics including those about work, which some kindly commented was a relief for them. smile

The details had to be removed due to some adverse posts at the start.

And yes, anyone can start a new topic elsewhere, I think it would improve interest in CT. smile

I am reading your posts DK and brue, and thank DK for trying. I don't have a problem with anything being posted, but as I pointed out earlier, certain topics are dominating both threads, and still are despite efforts to actually open up a dedicated thread about EVs. I will quite happily read about someone's lifestyle and the determined efforts of others to question, advise, undermine, disprove any aspect of it, but even that is better via one thread, as at least the second thread gives welcome relief when it all gets too much! You can easily choose not to read one thread, but more difficult to avoid if it's all over the place.

The very title of this thread 'What are you up to?' invites people to talk about their lifestyle or at least post details of what they are doing whether it is health, financial matters or household matters. People post on here about their visits to the doctor, hospital, dentist, children, grandchildren and many other things and many of these posts are repetitive too. So it doesn't seem right to me to single out the purchase of an EV or a visit to the salesman of a car dealer as a taboo topic, whilst other subjects of discussion such as whether someone's cold is getting better or the pile of laundry that is waiting to be done are considered more acceptable.

I agree totally Malcolm. You can talk about what you want, and I find some of your posts very interesting. But allowing others a vicarious enjoyment questioning your right at times, (on a number of threads,) to live your life as you want to, divulging some rather personal details about your finances, your partner and other members of your family and letting others pick those aspects apart isn't totally wise,  If you are happy doing it, and others are happy to continue to assist, then by all means carry on, but it would be helpful if you could decide whether or not it is going to dominate either Pointless or What are you doing today, rather than both. That is all I am suggesting.

As regards people reporting posts, has it occurred to you that the reports might have been done as some thought there was an element of bullying you, trying to act to prevent things escalating? You soak up a lot of criticism, and there are folks out there that care.

Yes I can see that now, brue. Having said that, the two threads are very similar but with different titles. This one 'Tell us your news and trivia' how is that any different a thread from 'What are you up to?'

I emailed Rowena during the week about the possibility of closing this thread due to the drift away from it's original spirit and intentions. I also thought it might be be better to concentrate resources on the one remaining social thread? So if suggestions and requests are ignored I can only think this is inevitable?

As this is a catch all thread I do not see why it will inevitably be closed.

What you must realise Malcolm that the forum is not a "hidden" one and when you use your name anyone can google it and see what you have posted. If you don't believe me try Googling your name + caravan , or + Brighton etc.

Indeed Brue. New Threads are like children. We can bring about the birth, nurture them as they grow but at some stage they are subject to the vagaries of the world wink

We ordered a Pizza last night, it duly arrived about 35 minutes later and I handed over a £20 note. The guy who had problems speaking English gave me too much change so I returned it telling him so and he thanked me for the tip, still couldn't get him to understand he'd given me too much change so pointless me standing at the door while it was getting cold. He went away happy thinking he'd had a tip.money-mouthfrown

Thanks ET and TTDA, we are trying to make the most of the MH just now while OH can drive (shoulder Op) due to be done end of March when we get back from Lanzarote but who knows if it will happen then or not. Recovery time is 4-6 weeks until he can drive (they say) if all goes to plan then we should be able to get away abroad mid May for around 5-6 weeks. The Russian river cruise would be mid July, however cannot book it just in case Op is delayed or recovery is longer. I'm happy to drive the MH so while OH is recovering we should get away here and there in Scotland if he's comfortable.

Hope everything is settling down for you this year TTDA.

I don't have to be particularly careful discussing personal issues and finances Cariadon.

You could use my details from here and google as long as you wished and you would not find my name or location. Even if I gave you my full name and home phone number you would be unlikely to track me down here.

Admittedly Malcolm is easy to find but not by further googling simply because he gives his name and location on here. He is obviously not concerned.

Redface, you have taken my post completely out of context, I think I am allowed my own "thoughts" about a thread I started in response to a moderator's comments on the same subject.

As I said previously it is not something I can decide and I won't be commenting further.
