Somewhere for the family in February
Hi,
Being new to caravanning, we are excitedly looking forward to our first winter trip in the British winter.
In February, we are hoping to find somewhere to stay, kind of Salisbury/Winchester/Southampton/New Forest/Andover ish (we're panning on visiting people between Devizes and Southampton while having a break) - the problem is, whenever I find a site that looks interesting, I find that it's still closed for the winter.....
Has anyone got any tips for how we can find a site which is open? Or, are there any recommendations for a site in this sort of area which would be good for a family of 4 (children both boys 10 and 12) plus a labrador?
Any help / tips greatly received. Thanks in advance

Have a look at the Shamba site near Ringwood. It is an Associated Club site and also listed in the ACSI site book.

I'd agree with Kj on Devizes C&CC if you're a member. One of their better sites with good HS pitches and a superb shower block. Right next to the canal for walks with the Lab or cycling with the boys and lots of interesting places to visit nearby - easy access to routes southwards for visiting folk down that way too. And a family & dog friendly pub just round the corner. Hope that helps.

I know it's a bit further south from Devizes, but it may well be worth looking at the Wareham area. Hunters Moon CAMC site is open all year or even Wareham Forest Holiday Park - may well be worth comparing prices.
It's an area we like and I'm sure you will find plenty to do in the area. Wareham is in close proximity to the Studland area, Poole and even Bournemouth just a little further. The other way are such places as Lulworth Cove and a bit further Weymouth and Portland. There is also Dorchester and Blandford Forum.
Just a thought.

Sandy Balls is a commercial site on the northern edge of the New Forest. This time of the year there is usually a cheap mid-week deal on pitch prices.

Hello seasiderobs and welcome to the Club Together and the Club.
We do have some wonderful CL sites on our network and in the area including Court Farm.
For further inspiration for half term fun across the UK and in Europe have a look at our Places to explore this February half term.

Another suggestion is the CL on the NT Stourhead Estate this is south of Devizes but in a lovely area with easy access to Salisbury and Shaftesbury, further south etc. You'd have the parkland to yourselves after hours, there is a café, pub and farmshop on site and a site fee reduction for NT members of £6. Lovely place for the family to explore. There are other CLs nearby too.

If you want a Salisbury site there is Coombe Caravan Park beside the racecourse there which will be open.

Thanks for the suggestions Rowena, unfortunately, none of the "places to explore" are in the area we're looking at going to, and Court Farm looks lovely for the summer (and we may try it then) but for February with 10 and 12 year old boys, we're concerned about what they'll be able to do in the fairly likely event the weather is inclement.

I looked at Sandy Balls for the 12th to the 14th Feb to take my 5 year old and 4 year old granddaughters away in half term.
The "cheaper" pitches have sold out leaving hard standing pitches at a cost of £96.00 for just two nights.
Wow! Needless to say I did not book.

Also saw that their swimming pool isn't open ......
