Yesterdays afternoon tea was pretty good despite my fears.

Wherenext - Katie's tea rooms in Watergate Street is one for your list. Wide range of gluten free menu items including gluten free afternoon teas on fancy three tier stands for £9.99 pp. The GF bread is good, the scone was a bit dry but that's no shock.

Superb dry sunny day after the incessant rain. All doors open in Van  to air and batteries charges. Both went for a long walk in Forest and gathered Car full of timber for sawing.(recycling in wood burner). Weather looking good all week so garden tidying and more wood cutting.Off to lakes next Sunday to join up,with hunting mates,

Hey, thanks JayEss. Will give it a go next time we venture into Chester.

On Friday I dropped the 2 ladies at M&S in Cheshire Oaks and called in at Sainsbury's nearby for a few GF basics. They were selling some iced fruit fingers left over from Christmas. I've not tried theirs and as they were selling them at a quarter of the RRP decided to try one. The price on the reduced ticket was £0.85 but when I went through self checkout it sold it to me for £0.10, the first and probably last bargain of the year.smile

Ma!colm would be proud of me (except I don't own a nectar card for points!).

Happy New Year to you btw.

Staying in again tomorrow as the washing machine engineer is coming to have a go at the rumbling bearing. Also delivery of new iron railings for the front garden .Others have deteriated too much over twenty years. But these new ones should 'see me out' being galvanised .

We had an exceptionally high tide with a storm surge a couple of days ago with water actually lapping against the walls of Portchester Castle.

Not a bad day here, finished my wood turning project for tomorrow.

We already dug  the old cot out of the loft so can now order a new mattress for it

OH sent me back up there today to find more  "baby stuff", so I have brought down the pram, the carry cot, 2 baths, a bouncy chair  and  a bath/carry cot stand.  And can see we have a push chair and high chair, plus goodness knows what else still up there!

We need a serious clear out!!

Lovely bright, sunny, cold and crisp day here today with NO rain - hooray! We went to eat with son, DIL, 2 grandons and Jessie the dog and had a lovely afternoon and evening.

A great photo moulesy. It is quite frightening how quickly nature can change the landscape.

Marks and Spencer are right next door to Tesco and she bought some clothes there.

Yesterday she came with me to Lancing and spent the evening at the Railway Inn. She bought a large glass of lemonade and watched the kareoke there whilst I was at work.

They let me go early at 21:30. Then we went to Worthing to swap over to the Shogun as we need to take it in to the car service for them to do some work on the airbags. It was recalled because of fault in manufacture. So it's booked in for today.

After collecting the Shogun, we drove back to the site via A24 and then M23 and got back by 22:45.

I need to start reducing my overdraft by paying my fuel allowance plus tips into the bank without withdrawing this money to pay for unleaded petrol. The overdraft is costing me about £50 a month in interest. So my New Years resolution is to try to reduce the overdraft borrowing both on the business current account as well as my two personal current accounts. That is why I'm so keen on the idea of no extra charge for re-charging the Smart Electric. The Clubs decision in this respect is much needed and much appreciated help for me.

Don't forget that I have to vacate the seasonal pitch for a minimum of two nights every twenty-one nights when I will be paying the full site fee charge for those two nights at another club site or CL.

    Morning Malcolm,

If I was in a similar situation to you there is no way that I would be buying a new car on the presumption that it would save some money.

You appear to just be adding to your outgoings, which any "savings" will not fully justify!

I would be looking to stabilise my lifestyle and NOT go spending money that I hadn't got!

But, that's just me. I'm pretty confident that it will make no difference to you. undecided

    Good morning, Yertiz.

Next winter, I'll be commuting from my seasonal pitch in Gatwick to Lancing for at least three to four days a week. The cost of this is likely to be in the region of £80 per week. The new Smart Electric will save this money.

You were talking about your wife passing a UK driving test Malcolm. Is your present smart manual? I ask as there is obviously some benefits of passing a test in a manual car at present.

In the meantime, it will save about £45 per week in unleaded petrol purchases. That's assuming that after our 21 night stay in Redhill, we'll get a pitch at Lancing Fruit Farm. If not, the cost of unleaded petrol will be higher. It all depends how quickly I get delivery of my new Smart Electric car. Granted I will have to pay about £100 more on the finance but the saving in fuel cost of between £225 per month to nearly £400 a month on a long distance commute is much more saving than the additional cost of the finance.

The £2500 overdraft that has run up on my bank account is all because of money spent on unleaded petrol for the Smart car in the last year. £2500 is actually 1 years cost of unleaded petrol. That speaks for itself, doesn't it?

The present Smart car is automatic, EasyT, and the new Smart Electric will be automatic too. The Shogun is manual.

£2,500 at under £5.5 a gallon is around 460 gals. That is around 26mpg for your stated 12,000 miles a year Malcolm. I get over 27mpg towing a 1500kg caravan with the X-Trail. Do you leave the handbrake on when driving the smart car? wink
