Caravanning at Christmas

Would love to know how many of you are living in your motorhomes or caravans over Christmas?

If so, where are you, what's the weather like and do you have anything else of interest to report?

Never done it ourselves, always wondered, always tempted.

Maybe one day to Southern Europe perhaps.

Best wishes and a very Happy Christmass to One and All.

We are doing Christmas in the caravan for the first time and we are really enjoying it at Cirencester. We did New Year last year for the first time and really enjoyed it.

We’ve done a few in Spain and Portugal. Sometimes cooked our own meal in the caravan, with guests and without. There is a lot to be said for a stroll on a silver beach in the afternoon sun after a nice lunch.

Check out the "Bring it on" thread a bit further down this page. Quite a few prefer to spend Christmas in their vans for various reasons.

    We're quietly jealous.

Yep, prefer to be away for Christmas. We would do little at home and so it is nice to spend time together with daily walks etc.

Roast half leg of lamb tommorow. smile

We are in Sandringham ( caravan site , not the Royal house!) with our 2 dogs and cat.

The cat loves hunting in the forest and it’s great for stepping out for a walk for the dogs.

its our first time in the van at Christmas and we are loving it. looking forward to cooking dinner tomorrow followed by a long walk through the forest afterwards.

We're on a CL just south of the Humber for a week before we head over to another near Chesterfield. We've been out nearly every X-Mas & New Year for at least the last 20 yrs. Will be going for a nice long walk in the morning/early afternoon before having our Christmas dinner, Partidge breasts & roast veg this year, in the van.

Just go for it Cartledge, you'll never know what it's like if you don't try it.

Not something that we normally indulge in. On Christmas day we sat down at the front of the caravan at 2pm with the small pull out table for some pate and French toast whilst the roasters were finishing off. Main course of roast lamb, roast potatoes, carrots in a bechemel sauce, cauli, and sprouts with a cranberry, lamb and red wine gravy. When we had finished we would not have fancied wine and nibbles smile

I am glad that others do go however  as I would feel bad about not going otherwise when the staff have made the effort.

Really nice of the wardens,to try to bring people together at this time of year, when interaction amongst "campers" is at the lowest,  with short days and possibly poor weather, when most are "hidden" in their warm LVs watching repeats of most programmes

'twas not you I was referring to ET, it was eurotraveller (et). Sorry if you thought I was replying to your post.

Your X-Mas day meal sounded very appetizing. The nibbles etc, were handed out on Christmas eve, I believe.

We've enjoyed spending Christmas in our caravan here at Baltic Wharf CMC site in Bristol. The turkey was cooked using the electric oven in the awning. Despite the rain, there's been plenty to watch on TV and we also enjoyed the Christmas Eve wine and nibbles with the wardens in reception.

Luckily, there has been enough dry moments to manage at least one walk by the harbour.

I thought that you were having a playful dig Nellie but that your main response was aimed at EuroT's less than generous post

In my opinion it's a lovely thought for the Wardens to get involved, it also gives us time to meet "fellow Campers"  We are off to Ferry Meadows for the New Year, they are doing a Hog Roast for New Years Eve and even as a vegetarian surprised  I am looking forward to it.

There are far too many of those "less than generous post", ET, by certain people.

And of course they wouldn't do anything like that "over there", would they!wink

My Wife’s Sister invited us over for a family Christmas (Snainton near Scarborough.) As we are new to Caravanning it has never registered that there’s a CL site opposite their driveway. So, we booked four nights and we were the only van on site.  We put a very small tree and a string of fairy lights up inside the van. Christmas day we spent it at the family house but I popped over the road late afternoon to put the AldI central heating on so the van would be cosy and warm for our return. Chilled out Christmas day evening just the dog, my Wife and myself ligged out watching Christmas Telly and working through a box of chocs (but not the dog.)

Boxing Day all the family came and spent the afternoon in our van which they marvelled at. Prior to the family visit my Sister in Law thought we were roughing it and offered use of their shower etc.

The Site owners were really good, normally it’s an 11am leave but they said we could leave whenever we like.

We saw loads of vans on the tow, we gave them all a wave as we passed.

Well we came home today after 11 nights at Cirencester.  It rained and snowed for 10 days and the rain mud and cold were pretty bad today when leaving.

Our verdict????  Well we've already booked Christmas 2018 :)

Yes that is correct, the owner has just laid down a few hard standing pitches which was a good thing as the field was pretty sodden when I went to fill the aqua roll.

hi, Catherine, we are up the road at Greenacres, Bibury....we could have come to the Club site but had already booked with Alan here so didnt want to let him down after discovering vacancies in town.

windy old night last night, lost power around 10:30pm, but back on now.

loads of rain, loads of wind, but the snow had washed away just before we arrived.

we generally have Christmas at home with the family and then away for NY in the van.......next year? Cuba!wink

BB,  we are looking at going to Greenacres for one of the bank holidays.  What it access like up there, I thought there was a sharp turn into the road the site is at?  Sharp as in you almost turn back on yourself or am I imaging this?
