Who are you? An individual or not?

What I mean is:

Do you post as yourself, and does anyone else using your membership post as well?

Do they have their own CT login, and/or do they read what you post?

Sometimes posters mention their “other half”. Does the OH know what has been said about them?

Does it matter if it’s ambiguous as to whether you are male or female?

I’m not the lead member (just the way we took out membership many moons ago), but do all the posting (and booking etc), and at first glance I appear to be a cow. I do mention the forum from time to time, and might make a general comment about subjects that come up. But my OH is not really interested in individual posts.

I'm not the lead member either but I do the booking, research etc. for our holidays.  We'd not know about ACSI, Critair, Sanef and much other stuff I've found out on here if left up to him!  OH doesn't come on here to post himself but is interested occasionally in items to do with motorhomes  and has given me info to pass on re other members queries.  If a post sounds as though he'd be interested I'll get him to read it rather then try to explain something.  We've been members since 1980s although first camped in 1970.  I think I can tell whether a poster is male or female but I bet I am not always right.

Does it matter? We are all posters although it’s quite clear that in some cases two different people post under the same user name.

This is a rather strange topic for a thread if I may say so.

I wanted to start another thread, and this was one of the thoughts I had.

It sometimes seems that General Chat is dominated by one thread, that has lately got a bit skewed. We need to let some light in.

And add in  a bit of nosiness about how our “other halves” react to being talked about, it resulted in this.

Mrs WN allows me to post on the understanding that I behave myself.

Fortunately she doesn't check up on me but there are certain members who tell tales behind my back! I know who you are and I will avenge myself one day.wink

I don't find it a strange  thread Goldie as I know Cows are intelligent creatures.

I used to post as OH as he is the lead member and initially set up CT membership. I now and have for a few years posted as me. OH isn't interested about the general day to day chat but if something does interest him he will post as himself.

I'm the one that does all the bookings and research, generally we 'talk' about where we like to go but in the end I would say I steer it in the direction I would like to gowink OH is quite happy to go anywhere and isn't big on planning, where I like to plan and have a fair idea what to expect.

This is not me or my other half but our lovely Simba a main coon cat and avitar.  Sadly we had to say goodbye to him on the 20th December after a short illness, will leave him as my avitar a little longer.

A healthy and peacefull new year to all especially our wardens and staff at head office. ☺☺

Do you know the reason the other has become skewed, Goldie? It’s because you and a few others constantly bite. Ignore it and the cause will go away but you probably love it really.laughing

Do you actually set out with the intention of starting a new thread and then hunt around for a subject? How unusual.

I very rarely comment on others’ doings on the What I Did etc thread. And as I said I thought we needed to get away from it.

I could have started a thread on something more contentious, but avoided it.

I suppose what I would ask Goldie is whether she has a suspicion that two people are posting under the same user name. That in itself might not be an issue if for instance one always posts in the chat sections and the other posts in the more technical sections? However if the suggestion is that two people are using the same user name to manipulate discussions I think that is a different matter and perhaps should be raised with the Community Manager. However I suspect quite a bit of evidence would need to be collected to support such a suggestion? On one of Goldie's comment and being old fashioned I would add that I would prefer to know the gender of the person I was replying to rather than making an assumption. That is why I would prefer people to sign their posts with their first name which would make things much more friendly.

I think you'll find the first assumption is correct, David. I've not come across the second scenario. It would stand out a mile if done under the one user name. However, a poster employing an alias would have pretty much a free hand to manipulate discussions and we know that's been done.

Gender matters not at all. Do you treat people differently according to gender? Surely not! surprised

    TW

The second scenario would risk being a bit Jekyll and Hyde I suppose?

Re gender, not a question of treating people differently at all but I have seen instances on this forum where an assumption has been made about  someone's gender when in fact it was incorrect  and this has been rather pointedly been corrected in a following post. That was the sort of situation I sought to avoid by my comment. Personally I try to be as gender neutral as it is possible to be.

Somewhat Jekyll and Hyde, David. The instance I’m thinking of was one person with two user names talking to ‘himself’ and liking the alter ego’s posts.

The answer with the gender issue, and many others, would seem to be never to make assumptions.
