Delayed Repair

I had an accident last summer which resulted in an insurance claim for bodywork repairs to my Swift Conqueror caravan. As the nearest Swift dealer is a 42 mile round trip I decided to obtain an estimate from a local "Approved Workshop" who is a 5 minute drive away. My insurance company approved the estimate and authorised the workshop to go ahead with the job in August 2017. As I had not heard from the workshop after a month I went to see him to find out when the job was likely to be done. He told me that as he was not a Swift dealer he had to order and pay for the parts from a Swift dealer and he was waiting delivery which he said could take several months, in fact he said that he had known parts take up-to 12 months to arrive. He said that Swift would be concentrating their efforts with supplying the Motorhome & Caravan Show which would delay delivery of the items which were manufactured in the Netherlands. I have now been waiting 4 months and the work has not been done.  My questions are:

  1. Has anyone had this sort of experience with a delay in supplying parts?
  2. Am I being impatient in expecting a quicker service than this?
  3. Would I have got quicker service from the Swift dealer?

Any advice or comments would be welcome.

David

    1. It’s not unheard of.

    2. Relates to 1.

    3. I doubt it.

What does your insurance company say about the situation? Are they not monitoring the issue?

Personally, I think I would have opted to drive 21 miles each way as it’s nothing but we live and learn.

    Good luck.

Go back to the insurance company and tell them you want it repaired at a Swift dealer

Sorry to hear of your troubles Pippyoak. Our 2013 Lunar Clubman was hit in the rear on 20th June, insurance repair OK given very quickly. Lunar spares are 12 week wait. Repair started 1 October and took 4 weeks. It needed a new back and repairs to the offside wall inside and out. Fortunately we were still able to use it inbetween time. This was with a Lunar dealer.

I am also awaiting repairs to my Conqueror after a woman side swiped me in October!

I am insured through the club, they were happy for me to take the van to my own dealer.

Took a while to get the go-ahead on repairs, but my dealer and the insurers kept me up to speed.  The parts are on order but my dealer tells me there is an 84 day lead time on some of the bits we need!

Fortunately my van is useable in the meantime.
