Servicing Peugeot base vehicle
Our Autosleeper is coming up for two year service so the Peugeot Boxer base vehicle will require a first service under the warranty conditions. I have spoken to a number of Peugeot main dealers who refuse to do the service as their workshop cannot accommodate motorhomes. This is made worst because I have a small warranty claim (outside air temperature reading faulty). It seems that some will to do the basic service but not the warranty claim. The nearest place I have found is about 20 miles away which is not a disaster but rather disappointing considering the number of Boxers there must be on the road.
Anybody else had this problem?

I assume you are contacting Peugeot commercial vehicle garages and not car dealerships, HG, as it’s unlikely a car dealership will have the equipment or headroom in the workshop to get a Boxer up on the hoist.
Sometimes the problem is caused by having an Alko chassis as the wider rear track means the vehicle hoist may be too narrow to accommodate it. I'm not sure if yours has the Alko chassis as some AS Peugeot models do and some don’t.
Another hoist issue can be that many are rated to lift 4t and operators get twitchy with 3.5t MHs as they can’t be certain of your weight. Obviously, a 4.25t MH will be too heavy.
Neither hoist issue is of concern when dealing with white van man's empty panel van.
I'm surprised a Peugeot main dealer won’t do your warranty work on the base vehicle.

I have had all my cab servicing done at the dealer where I purchased the van, mainly for the reasons the OP mentions. We do have a Fiat commercial dealer in MK who would do the servicing but,of course, would not do the warranty work. I think if my dealer can't undertake the work they use a Peugeot agent in Wellingborough. I think there might be a suitable alternative in Aylesbury. There is a Peugeot dealer in Bletchley, MK, who do both cars and commercials but given how crowded the parking is I don't think I would even be able to get the motorhome on the premises!!! It's a bit academic as they can't service motorhome because of their size. Sorry not much help.

I work for a Peugeot Main Dealer and we do have some big old motorhomes come in, but I don't know what we do with them as we are restricted in terms of what can fit through the workshop door. We've certainly had people coming down from Oxfordshire and Berkshire for work.

Yes, I can get it done in Aylesbury but it just seems a long way to go when I have a main dealer in Beaconsfield 4 miles away. They won’t do it unfortunately. Marquis at Newbury will take it to the main dealer in Newbury although apparently they won’t do warranty work and also it is the best part of a day to get habitation service and vehicle service.
I wonder what happens with MOT? Same problem I guess.

Again White Arches sort that out for me by taking it to an MOT station in Rushden when I have it serviced. I did ask the local Fiat dealer mentioned earlier but they can only do certain classes of vehicles.

My Autosleeper happens to be on a Fiat base. I take it to the place of purchase for the habitation service, 100 miles away, and down to Hull 50 miles away to the nearest Fiat professional dealer for the vehicle service. There are no Fiat dealers in my home town and only a small Peugeot car dealership. I knew this before making the purchase though, and its just the price you pay to maintain the warranty whilst it is current, in my view.

Thanks to all. My nearest place seems to be Aylesbury which is about 25 miles. Seems this is not so bad compared with some. An additional complication of owning a Motorhome rather than a Caravan, although fortunately these commercial vehicles are well proven and reliable. Clearly they don’t expect much warranty work.

my hab and damp check will take about three hours, ill take my bike and cycle into Taunton, collect a bit of shopping and a bite of 'all day brekkie'.
as it happens, my local garage will be able to do MOT and base servicing when the time comes, the owner is a motorhomer himself and has all the space and equipment on site.

As a footnote, prompted by this thread I have arranged for a Habitation service to be done by an Approved Workshop ten minutes away from me and cancelled the service at my supplying dealer which is an hour away. I will still get the Peugeot serviced separately.
I talked to the owner of the local dealer/workshop about warranty claims. Whilst they are happy to do this and will liaise with the factory for claims (Autosleeper in this case) he pointed out that they were reluctant to do extensive warranty work unless the van had been supplied by them. The reason: the rate Autosleeper’s reimburse them per hour is substantially lower than their normal £65 per hour charge rate so they are out of pocket and it blocks the workshop for more profitable work. An entirely reasonable view and sheds a different light on the whole warranty claim process. It explains why some workshops will claim to be fully booked and only taking work for vans they have supplied (caravans as well as motorhomes).

Hi BB, who do you intend to use in Taunton? Because of warranty concerns I have my hab service done by Highbridge and will have first Fiat service done by Chelston later this month. It would be good to have another option.

Update on the above thread.
I eventually discovered that many local workshops can do both an MOT and what they call a “manufacturer’s service” which uses genuine parts and presumably maintains the warranty. There is one not far away that will handle motorhomes up to 3.3m high and 4t.
Anyway, the outside air temperature was reading wrongly in the cab and I was forced to take the Motorhome to a Peugeot main dealer of which the nearest turned out to be Hartwell in Dunstable which is 45 miles away. They were very good, giving me coffee machine vouchers and a sandwich voucher, but having agreed that the probe was faulty they now have to get the repair authorised and get a replacement wing mirror. Back to Dunstable again in due course.
The good news is that my local authorised Autosleeper dealer which is only 10 mins away agreed to investigate the faulty reversing camera and has now ordered a whole system so that he can do a trial and error swap. You win some and lose some!

bill, sorry for the delay, I missed this question completely.....
i actually used Chelstons and was going to cycle into Taunton from there...
as it happens, it was chucking it down and my daughter had set me another task (at the Nissan dealer) so I didn't go....
i may use Huttons (nr WSM) for the 24 mth base service, but unlikely to have a Hab check....just the damp check sticker.....
