I am very keen on cycling ( just leisurely) and would love to know which of our club sites are particularly good for getting out on the bike. I have always taken my bike on the back of the m/h but as I am now in my 70s I will be investing in a electric bike which will help me up the steeper hills. I know Blackshaw Moor is apparently pretty good as you can bike straight from camp so I have booked in there, any more suggestions ?

Wirral Country Park has direct access onto the Wirral Way across the road from the site. You can cycle for miles around the Wirral mostly on dedicated tracks with no cars to worry about and its nearly all flat!

We have cycled directly from Poolsbrook old railway line. Clumber the estate mainly paths, Chirk on canal.  Crossways (train to weymouth and then old railway line or Dorchester by train and then cycle paths to weymouth this one to far for me.  Hebden Bridge canal into Hebden bridge and we also went by train (station down the hill from site) up 2 stops and then cycled back.  Pub on canal on way back.  We did Tissington Trail from Rivendale Holiday park but this is not a club site but trail access opposite entrance to site.  Slinford has access straight onto the Downs Link.  Houghton Mill no longer club now National Truist did 2 great cycles from here.  Grafham Water site right on circular route around the water.

I am sure there are more I will have a think.  I do not like cycling on the road so most of these are paths of some sort either direct from site or a very short quite road to get to the paths.

If you don't mind using a non facilities site, Stamford club site has access to some nice cycle routes in the woods.

If you are a member of the other Club they have a campsite in Milton Keynes with access to over 270 kms of special cycleways.

The two New Forest sites will give you access to miles of off road cycling. Sutton on Sea has a lovely long promenade for bikes.

Jack Rabbit,  Here in Cornwall and Devon there are many miles of old railways converted into off road cycle trails, but it's independent and commercial sites rather than Club sites which are better placed to access them close by. If you are interested I will give you details.

May I just say thank you very much to everybody who has replied to my request for good camps to cycle from. I am overwhelmed by the amount of really good information you have given me. I have made notes of all the camps and cycle tracks you have recommended and hope to at least do some of them in 2018. This is a great club with super members. Thanks again.

For cycling, and finding out about inclines etc.... OS maps are your best friend, and you can easily plan either a linear or circular ride from anywhere you fancy, either avoiding or using public roads. Be wary of some advice on "easy" routes.....we came across one described as a goof family ride. It had two 1:4 Hill climbs of a mile in length that had even my supercyclist OH off walking at one point!laughingsurprised

If you ever cross the border into Bonnie Scotland There is a commercial site at North Ledaig ( AS )  which is adjacent to the dedicated cycle track following the route A828  for many miles. Also there's a site called Invernahaven just south of Newtonmore which is very close to the long distance A9 cycle route.

Chester CC site is excellent for cycling th canal tow paths go on for miles and you can also cycle in to the city centre about 4 miles. Maragowan CC in Killin has access to great cycle routes. Berwick CC is good for cycling and the town can be reached on bike within 10. Not a CC site but Luss C&CC site is right next to a beautiful cycle route mostly traffic free. Hope this helps

Thanks again guys and gals, lots of very useful information there. That should keep me busy for a while. I really look forward to getting the e bike in the spring and I will be off down the tracks, up the country lanes, across the fields and along the coastal paths. And hopefully find a nice country pub to guence my thirst on route.

Southport.  Lots of flat areas including the coastal waterfront and around the lake. Handy for Morrison’s on the way back for supplies.

If you have a basket on your bike.

Would recommend the smallest pub in England for refreshments.
