New Year’s Eve

You may be right ET, but that doesn't mean its merits or otherwise shouldn't be thoroughly debated......

I think it a real asset, the ability for members to change plans, amend bookings or even cancel if really need be that is. I reckon that the vast majority of bookings are made in good faith with a very high degree of actual uptake. Like we've been told several times the number abusing the system is very few indeed. Why should these few try to dictate what is provided for the many of us who have every intention of honouring the booking whenever and wherever possible? Why should there be just one industry wide practice? We should embrace the differences, choice and variety is good isn't it? Remember, the club is a nationwide network of sites, not just one site.

I'm on my christmas leave.....
And as I have no site booking I've time on my hands........

I agree that it is, I've never understood the 'the others do it this way why doesn't the club do that' mentality. Why should the club follow others? Why do people want the club to follow others? Is it because they can't be bothered to book early enough to get a pitch and so blame not having deposits?
This is what the club offers in it's booking system, if you like it use it, if not then don't.

We are currently at Wharfedale enjoying the new year break - snow and all!!!
We were originally due to arrive on the 27 December but due to my wife being ill over Christmas I amended the booking at the last minute to arrive on the 28 December. The system worked well and offered the flexibility that meant I didn't have to cancel the whole booking.
The booking was made in December 2016 along with others for the 2017 season and this amendment was my first cancellation in over 2 years.
I would like to think that the vast majority of cancellations are due to an unavoidable change in circumstances including weather and not just because of someone deciding to do something different.
Happy New Year

In 2016 on Frenzy Day, fed up with the chance nature of it all, I booked a number of weekends at the site to cover all possible dates. As soon as the event date was announced in early February, I cancelled all the weekends that I didn't need.
Speculative booking? Yes, of course it was.
Do I think it was fair? No.
Was it in the "spirit" of the rules? Probably not.
Have I done it again for the event in 2018? No. My conscience got the better of me. I felt uneasy all the time I was holding on to those weekend bookings and was relieved when I cancelled them.
I see absolutely no problem with your actions. You left the option for others to use the booking. The only ones that could have been inconvenienced were the 'hated' early bookers.
On most none 'honey pot' sites it would have made little difference other than at Easter or May Statutory/Bank hols
I have only once made a speculative booking. That was the year before CC lost the Braithwaite Fold site at Bowness. In February I saw that there were 5 nights free at the site and as it was a site that we had used once before and liked I booked it for September. My thinking was that we had not decided on Sept tour. In May we booked December tour and used the booking. If not we would have released. This site was a honeypot site.

Over our long caravanning lifetime we have never gone to a campsite for Hogmanay.
To us, Hogmanay is a special time to share with our family, friends and neighbours.
Those south of the Border may have different ideas and I wish them all the best, whatever their choice of New Year's celebrations.
Happy New Year to all.

I too see absolutely nothing wrong with this. Clearly not an habitual or even an occasional event so what's the problem. Once plans were finalised then the amended dates were immediately released back into the system which allowed others to enjoy them. As we have been told, such instances like this are very few indeed and as has been said, this ability to plan and amend is a real asset to members. In effect this activity may actually be somewhat helpful to others as it may spread a little availability across the season.

+1 No problem at all with the actions taken, it was all allowed under the rules

You have done nothing remotely wrong or selfish, you are using the club has it obviously designed for, book, cancel, amend all free of charge, every member can do the same just remember it is not a club but a hard nosed business, and while you still can enjoy the freedom it offers.

That sounds like good news. Fingers are crossed.

People can be quite determined & resilient when it suits them....
Oh so true, if the result of weather really scares you why book so far in advance. Why not leave it until you are satisfied you can make the trip?
The news always without fail tends to over embellish the true situation. It is easy enough to check the travel situation for yourself on the many web sites available fore this purpose. By all means take notice of the news but check out the situation for yourself.

Thanks TW as a mum that’s good news , but sadly as he fitted with the blood clot he can’t drive for at least a year and as a taxi driver he can’t drive for 5 years so in effect he is now un employed and with 4 children that’s a wrench , but I still have a son and my grand children still have a dad , money can’t replace him.

Prime example >here< of the news scaremongering when in fact travel was easier than normal because of less traffic.
I checked road conditions via the traffic cameras and phoned the site for a local report and decided to make the journey which was no trouble at all and we thoroughly enjoyed the trip which had a great Christmas feel to it. All it takes is a bit of commitment.

What really has surprised us this morning is the number of people departing site. Don't recall so many leaving last New Year's Eve and some of those departing have only been here maybe a couple of days.

We stayed at Broadway club site Xmas and new year...always full new year but a few spaces were available due to illness and weather... personally I would rather members cancelled if they are ill..rather than come along ...no one can anticipate what may happen right up to the last minute....I am sorry for those that couldn't get as we all had a great time again..with buffets and lovely wardens x.
