Strange that.....our caravan has a thing called a gas cooker, it even has an oven !

I believe many people go away for Christmas and cook a full Christmas meal using this cooker.

I'm sure your wife can adapt to cooking with gas for a while.  She might even like it, it is actually much more controllable.  And don't worry, the cooker does not use a lot of gas.

This will also leave you plenty of amps to run your heating with, though of  course the use of the gas cooker will also make it warm in the van.

As for needing to sit out in a relaxer in the middle of winter.......words fail me!

Posts like this should really be asked in UK Campsites and Touring. I can't move but perhaps I could suggest that in future you use the right section of the forum. I appreciate that subjects covered here can blur the distinctions between sections but we should try to  keep this as a General Chat section for off topic subjects if we can. You may also find you get more detailed information from those that might not ever use General Chat.

Well said , I wonder how many of us have to 'manage' with a gas cooker. I do as we don't have an electric ring on our hob wink however this is Malcolm and we know how he likes his electricity wink maybe he has shares in one of the big companies laughing

I'm afraid........ words fail me! pretty much says it all over the last couple of days.

I don't find the gas hob in the caravan as easy to regulate for simmering. The gas oven is certainly not as good as those at home.

The only recent change was the tenancy agreement which was required by my wife's visa solicitor for her visa application to comply with the visa rules. So my cousin agreed to do it. So officially, he is the owner of the property and we are his tenants.

My wife prefers to use electric for cooking and save gas for when it's really needed like on an overnight stop at the services where there's no electric.

It actually gets very warm in the awning on a sunny day in the winter. When the sun comes through the window, it's like a greenhouse.

I didn't think you were allowed to use gas at services.  If that's changed recently I'd be surprised (and pleased)

I take it you have a rent book as his tenants, as he will of course have to declare on his tax returns he is a landlord wink

No, we might consider an EV as asecond vehicle when present 17 year old Yaris fails its MOT. depends  on cost.

If I hadn't been forced to replace my car two years ago I would have been looking at EVs now. It would make a lot of sense for me but my current car owes me a few more years yet.

No, when and if it becomes possible to get a charging point at the house then we would probably consider a small LV, at the moment we only have the one small car which is our run about. It is now 7 years old and only done 30,000 mls so an LV would be a good choice.

We usually keep our cars at least 10 years, one Volvo we had for 13 years, one we gave to our daughter and is now 15 years old, the XC90 we traded in after 10 years as it proved unreliable, we had hoped it would last much longer.

So now we have a 1 year old VW towcar and the 4 year old Smart, I cannot see us buying another new (small) car for hopefully at least 6 years.

In that time, things will have moved on....we may have "moved on"....but should we stay the course we would certainly  consider an EV, so not a wasted discussion brue.

If Rowantree Pk is anything to go by Baltic Wharfe will be quite full when you get there tomorrow and as there are only 12 pitches that take awnings, as shown in the Site Directory, I think you might struggle to get one.

    Brue

I suspect we all realise that sooner or later it could become inevitable that we have an EV. However looking at the sums I could not justify the cost. I took the liberty of checking the new price for the car you have and it's about double what I paid for my Kia Venga. We only do about 3000 miles a year in the car (often more annual miles in the motorhome) Even with Government subsidy the prices are still very high. If there was a level playing field in terms of prices I suspect many more would be willing make the change. I would certainly be willing to consider it but not at current prices.
