    Paul, i use the Tomtom without sound as i dont need telling multiple times to 'turn left'....i can se the device telling me that in the 'next instruction' window.....with a countdown of distance until this action. ..seems to work for me...

    however, one day i must have managed to get the sound on by accident, was travelling along a very long stretch of motorway, with the sat nav silent as usual.....

    then, right out of the blue, on what felt like full volume, this voice bellowed out 'IN 500 METRES, TURN LEFT!'....

    rather thsn a safety aid, it nearly made me have a heart attack!

    Especially useful on the continent around cities such as Frankfurt where multiple lanes are in use.
