Broadband renewal

Its that time again. Last Dec I had terrible service from BT and instigated a transfer to John Lewis.At the 11th hour BT came back and their sales Dept persuaded me to stay. Again now I get conflicting info from Live chat and telephone. Still not sure when contract expires ( 9/1 Prepaid line rental expires-  26/1 Broadband )- I think. The new offer from BT is £30-49 pm, B/Band, anytime calls. (I get BT sport free now but no mention in e mail). The service is so poor that I think I will go to John Lewis but have sent a complaint to BT Durham yesterday. Any one got another provider and are they good and competitive.? When do I need to start the transfer process without any penalties?  Any info welcomed.

    Have you checked the reviews for John Lewis Broadband?or do you think its the same as those who complain about this club,and UK built LVswink

    I have recently changed my phone over to Plusnet who have provided me with broadband for years and I have always been happy with their service. I appreciate they are owned by BT but fortunately still seem to be run they were before that change of ownership. The one thing I have always disliked about BT is the Indian call centres. Did you realise that Plus Net run John Lewis/Waitrose internet services?

    JVB - Thanks just looked at reviews. They are also poor so it could be "from the frying pan into the fire". Will wait for BT response before proceeding

    No,we don't even get a mobile signal here at home.

    I see that today's DT headline says  8 in 10 rural homes struggle with mobile signals.

    It’s diabolical really, The service that rural areas get from BT is terrible as regards the infrastructure. All the the suppliers of broadband are dependant on this as well, so to a large extent it’s Hobson choice for the customer. Maybe now the Openreach division has been separated out things might get better but I’m not holding my breath.

    I tried to check our broadband speed on the Ofcom web site today...it was so slow the results didn't come through and I gave up!

    The Ofcom web site is a good place to start looking at what's available in your area for mobiles and broadband.

    Unless the infrastructure is there very little can achieved by swapping around.

    No matter who you go for at some point it will normally need to use BT infrastructure,

    On researching I find I have only BT, Post Office or John Lewis to provide broadband at my address. The Talk Talk V,irgin etc are not available, so really little choice. Co incidentally I have just had a phone call from BT,saying they will honour the price quoted with a £10 credit to cover the general call increases on 7/1.So I get Line rental, Unlimited Broadband, Anytime Calls and BT Sport for £29-98 per month for 18 months. I also keep my e mail. All in all I have accepted

    I think that's a good deal Fisherman. End of last month we started negotiating with BT over our renewal, we have unlimited broadband, free anytime calls and line rental, BT were asking for £52 a month and wouldn't budge. Plusnet wanted £25 a month for the same package, back to BT to see if they will negotiate, NO they said that was the price and that it will go up in January. So we have parted company, eldest Son and wife had the same thing, they have moved to Vodafone and are quiet happy with them.

    Ah David Plus Net is owned by BT

    I suppose we are lucky that we can get cable via Virgin, but at the end of the day we are all in BT's hands as Open Reach  seem to control it all

    I suppose you are all lucky with different companies competing for your custom, as there could be bargains to be made. Whereas I consider myself lucky that I have fibre to the door, unfortunately there are no competitors to challenge the price..
