Superb WiFi
currently on Thirsk racecourse club site which has a separate wifi system to the one used by the CAMC. It is paid for at £2.50 per day or £10 for 7days.
I have used it to stream live golf an Sky Go over the weekend and it was superb, no buffering.
I check with the warden who said it was fine to stream as the system has the speed and capability to cope with it think he said it was 11mbps .
it can be used on 3 devices at once which we did and all were streaming
wouldn't it be great if the CAMC wifi on other club sites was as good , it does go to show it's possible. This wifi is operated by the racecourse but paid for at reception with the wardens ,
also I should at the wardens at Thirsk are excellent

As with any WiFi provision it does depend on what band width is available. I assume the 11 Mbps quoted must have been per small section of the site. As if it covered the whole area, more than 5 people streaming would have exceeded its capacity.

Thirsk does have fibre broadband and the racecourse is near to the exchange which might explain the good speed. Also, maybe, that its not supplied by Air Angel?

I read your views and am glad you are satisfied, however having Just spent £2.50 for Caravan Club WiFi I feel particularly agreived.
Unable to access Avtex set up instructions due to slow download and having paid £20.70 a night ,for the pitch at York, I wonder just what we are spending our yearly membership for?
New branding? More Motor homes?

We were at Rowntree Park over the weekend and were too very disappointed with the WiFi. Our annual subs had ran out so I renewed and went to connect but it was dismally slow and unusable. If the site were in the middle of nowhere like many sites I would not have minded as you would expect slow connections in the sticks but for a site in the middle of a large City its a disgrace, gave up in the end and used our MiFi instead.
Come on C&MC get with the times, surely you must be able to get better than .7mbs in York even using a 4G solution?

York RP WiFi is very poor most of the time but York Beechwood Grange is abysmal if you can connect at all you are lucky. Maybe someone who lives in or near York can tell its if there is a poor WiFi infrastructure in parts of the area. Having said that I have to admit I have used BT hotspots in York city and also the local free Wifi with no problem. See #CityConnectWiFi

from the BT web site for broadband 'availability'..
Great news
You can get speeds up to 8Mb with our Unlimited Broadband, and you can get BT TV.York Caravan Club, Terry Avenue, York, yo231jq Change address
more about your speed details
Standard broadband
Download Speed:
3Mb-8Mb
Estimated download speed range*Minimum Speed:
2Mb
This speed is an estimate, but it should be accurate to within 1 or 2 Mb Learn moreso, unfortunately, not in a fibre area, and 'vin ordinaire' copper isnt particularly fast, even at the site office.

On a different but similar theme I think the Club should now provide BB as part of our pitch fees. Internet is now the 4th utility along with gas, electric & water. The vast majority of people use the internet daily & the Club should acknowledge this.
2 -
That’s fine if you want pitch fees to increase.
Somebody has to pay for your use of the system. Should it not be you or are you looking for something for nothing?

I really don't think Internet is any way equatable with gas, water or electric (but then I would say that, being, apparently, one of the minority who can quite happily do without it for a few days on site).
I think it should be paid for, but in return I do think folk who choose to pay should expect a reliable and good quality product.

simple tick box on the booking form...
..wifi yes/no (a code given to those who pay, like so many other sites all over the place)
..ehu yes/no (those who pay get hooked up, easy)
i dont think anyone owt for nowt, merely to be able to opt in or out if it suits.
If 3/4g poor, folk might choose to pay for wifi..
if winter time with less sun, folk might choose to pay for ehu..
no different to booking a serviced pitch (or even a HS)....you choose it, you pay.
agree with M, if you do choose to buy a service (HS, SP, EHU, Wifi) it must be fit for purpose.

Instead of distributing the available Wifi signal all over the campsite. The sensible course of action would be for a communal wifi room only , (next to the site office). where anybody wishing to use the Wifi could take their device along, do what they need and then get back to their van.
A win / win situation.

CAMC utilise "latest technology" for WIFI. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-42338067

There is a site we used this year that had not in the past had wifi, idecided to see if anything was "available" and got cc internet in the c/van,spoke to warden who advised a hotspot was now available, but it had not been "tested fully" so was not yet "advertised",.but i now know where to pitch, if available, to get wifi
so on these sites there could now be "honey pot" pitches

You could do as I do. Avoid honeyspot sites, avoid frenzy day, swerve club Wi-fi and use the mobi network which is available in most places. It’s much less stressful than getting uptight about things. Chill out
