Weekend one-nighters
Yet again and year after year we’ve been unable to book a particular site for the dates we need because it would appear, the Friday or Saturday is full.
This too within 30 minutes of 2018 bookings coming online?
I question whether all those who booked will actually turn up? ( Yes! I said it !! ) I feel a lot don’t turn up but maybe book ‘just in case’.
All too often one-nighters are stopping us book the dates we need at other sites too, maybe the club need to look at one night only bookings numbers being restricted on Friday/Saturday to give others a chance to get the inclusive dates they need.

We often book just Saturday night at Clumber before a trip, as it enables us to get the van set up, and we like traveling on a Sunday.
I make no apology for that, as it is permitted by the club. If they changed it to having to book two nights, I would book the Friday as well. So the weekend would still be taken.🤔

Maybe it is the people taking seasonal pitches that fill up the weekends? Good Heavens - they might not even have their caravan on the site at weekends at all!

When going into north of Scotland I have on a few occasions booked a one night stopover to break the journey but that was when still working and might have been on a three week break, More time available and no longer necessary. Last trip to Scotland was 7 weeks.

We have booked one night hop stays for the last thirty years of touring, it has always happened, always will. Applies to both van and MH as well. Certain sites, those close to major routes have always offered and been useful for this touring service.......it's a touring Club! It's not worth getting upset about, there are lots and lots of options.

Careful what you post P&B1 you'll get jumped on by some "members" and get called a bad loser. I didn't get the time away with my family I wanted because of inconsiderate block bookers who block book & then will cancel 3 days before they were supposed to travel.

It's the first time I have ever booked a site on Frenzy Day, so didn't know what to expect to be honest. The most popular site, small, limited pitches, busy busy time, just prior to schools breaking up. Logged on after 10 am, three nights all available, all done and dusted in thirty seconds. And yes, the Club does allow me to cancel without penalty if I choose to, but in thirty years only a couple of dire emergencies have seen us cancel at all. Very special event, specific dates required, I got lucky. But I have other options if I hadn't.

Yes they do Oneputt, but on this forum if you raise your head above the parapet and tell it like it is then the hordes jump on you and you'll get called names. I know because I've had it done to me.
When I joined the club 10 months ago I was told that this was a "friendly club", well it isn't. Theres a nasty element on this forum who abuse others whilst the Mods do nothing.

Agree. We have done the same for longer trips to get nearer to out main destination, we do most of the travelling on the first day and get to within about 50 miles or so and just stay one night. Again no apologies

Unlucky yes ......bad loser no ....its the same for all the membership , all 300,000 + .
Block booking speculation always pops up come D Day , its what's expected .😘
When anyone doesn't get their first choices .....it's a myth.😇

Yes, if you have a long journey to your destination the sensible thing to do is to have a one night stopover, for the safety of all road users.
When working, we would set out on a Saturday and book that one night, especially if going to a Channel crossing.
These days we have plenty of time so the journey usually becomes part of the holiday. We may still do a one night stop on the way home though, and sometimes that will fall on a weekend night.

Tried to book Chatsworth Thursday to Monday at end of August for an event at the house. Couldn’t do it because the Friday was full. All other days free, but I fully understand it’s not just because people have booked the Friday. It’s just the way the booking system is and I accept it.

What makes you think the club aren't taking action fb? Quite a few serial confrontational posters have been absent for prolonged periods at different times this year. No idea why, but I'd guess they've overstepped the mark once too often and been suspended?
Anyway, best probably to put it down to poor manners on their part and ignore them. Happily, one never seems to come across them on site!

We are local to Chatsworth , Sunday till Thursday/Friday is usually always available most time of the year there.
We book 4 or 5 nights there regularly for those days .😇

Easy mistake Moulesy. It is weekenders, motorhomers, one nighter, retired folk, people working from home, those that want weekends at honeypot sites being the worst.
Thinking about it the above list does not seem to leave a great percentage of the membership that aren't a problem.

Yes I’ve been many times but it isn’t the case the end of August. Friday clearly a sought after day 20 mins into the booking day it was sold out. Never mind. Buxton booked instead.

Oh, dear. I’m retired, I’m a motorhomer and tend to tour the length of the country in one night stops. Inevitably I’ll stop somewhere on a Friday and a Saturday just for the one night. I’m so sorry that my apparent selfishness might upset those who think they have a prior right to a full week's booking.
I’m not a weekender, I’m not a speculative booker, I’m not out to best others, I don’t want the system changed to suit me, I’m simply touring around in my own quiet way minding my own business. Live and let live, folks.
No, I’ve not booked a single thing today. I’ll wait until closer to the time and book an alternative if my first choice isn’t available. It’s life and not worth getting stressed over.

Just look on the bright side. I promised SWMBO to book two nights at Chatsworth to cover the first day of the Country Fair. Finger poised at 8am and Eureka! I was in. Problem is, I miskeyed and only booked the Thursday night instead of Thursday and Friday.
When confirmation came through and I noticed my mistake, all those selfish one/two/weekend/retired/working motorhomes/caravanners had booked the whole weekend.
But, here's the bright side. "Sorry dear, booking day frenzy. I could only get the Thursday. But, don't worry, we can go to Buxton site on Friday night".

Everyone didn't use it. It never crossed my mind to bother.
