Water heater on the blink
Hi guys and gals I've got a Abbey gt with a cascade water heater and for some reason it won't fire up. It's got a full bottle and I've cracked the gas pipe at the heater end and there's definitely gas getting through and when I flick the switch I starts clicking light it's trying to light but after 10/15 seconds the light goes red and it stops. Any ideas or shall I just go buy a new heater?

Ok, you're just using gas? does it not or can not work on electricity?
Are there any other stop cocks/taps in place? On our van there is one above the bottle on the locker wall where the pig tail goes onto the regulator, then another tap under the sink. (usually with ones for cooker and fridge)
Does any other gas appliance work?

Is there a plastic cover on the outside of the van over the heater exhaust? Perhaps it will not fire up because the outlet is blocked.

The only time ours failed was when I forgot to remove the vent cover. I guess there is a micro switch on it which prevents ignition so it is possible that the switch might not be operating. As you have tested for gas at the heater I am not sure what else could cause the problem.

Cascade water heaters are no longer available so replacement would have to be a copy called "Henry".The burner unit could be faulty(rusted through) The burner could be wet (usually caused by forgetting to close the "fast drain" when filling the system,or there could be soot or a spiders web on the burner. The burner is part of the pcb and is accessed after removing the outside cover (4 screws) and then the aluminium shield (2 screws).Get someone to turn the heater on whilst you watch what is happening at the burner.Should you need a new burner/pcb assembly they can be replaced with a Henry unit which should be available from your local dealership.Hope this of help.
