Site Redevelopments - 2018

I'd imagine that the September date for Beechwood Grange is the date the upgrade will be finished, whilst the rest of the site will be open as normal throughout the year. It would be madness for the Club to close the site through the summer and I don't think they will.

York Beechwood Grange, North Yorkshire - site opens 7 September 2018
New toilet block and drainage improvements
Extension field with 14 additional serviced pitchesTaken from the link that Ro put on, looks to me like the whole site will be closed

I always thought Troutbeck was a bit of a jewel, the two toilet blocks were modern enough, the site is all H/S I think, plenty of serviced pitches and good access roads. I would have thought the club could have found other sites in greater need of work.
Whilst it is nice to see the club investing in the network, some of the work seems unnecessary, I would prefer them to spend cash to acquire new sites or add H/S and toilet blocks to existing sites without without them.....

I have been there several times in recent years TT but never realised that there were two blocks. However now I think about it there is indeed.
Certainly don't want CC spoiling some more of our favourites sites with toilet blocks! There are dew enough non facility sites as it is!

Would be nice if Bladon Chains was upgraded, showers are very dated and more hard standings would be great as many grass pitches are out of action in bad/wet weather. It would be nice if these new hard standings are honeycombed concrete which the grass grows through and makes them look like fully grass pitches so as not to spoil the site looks.
I'm sure I read somewhere though that the club can't get a decent lease. Maybe someone can put me right.

Completely agree with your second sentence, ET. (apart from the sight mistype. )

Bladon is on a year by year rent as the lease has run out from what I heard from the staff and as the club do not own it no refurb on the list, but this applies to quite a number of sites apparently.
Yes it would be good to have more refurbs done but will that increase the site prices as they are expensive now, will be interesting to see what 2018 prices will be.

with what have read some of the planning permission ( the serviced pitches) haven't been granted planning permission yet and looking at the drawing that have been proposed to the council i am both shocked and disapointed with camc. they are trying to pride themselves over the last few years to family's and looking at the plans they are doing away with the football/games field!!! what a contradiction!!! my 11 year old son loves beechwood because of the field and no doubt other kids do football cricket ect. i have even seen girls doing/playing the same sports while on site. all the other plans that have been approved (toilet block and warden hut ect) and resurfacing the road in will be a godsend. i totally agree with as the block was looking/feeling tired. i also agree with others that 8 months is very much over the top
i might get told off for this but look here at the proposals.

One of my two favourite sites is Troutbeck Head but when I leave reviews you do seem to notice that a fair few make some comment on the 'outdated' or 'tired looking' toilets blocks. Never bothered me as I was in the lakes and proving they were clean couldn't care less. But I suppose the club has decided to update them due to the comments?
To be fair the flooring did look worn in places.

Cambridge Cherry Hinton site - website cock up! I like Cherry Hinton site. It was the first site I stayed at when I joined the Caravan Club ten and a half years ago. Over the years I have made 39 visits, a total of 92 nights, the latest being 12-14 October. As I live in Norwich, it is both a good place to stay in its own right, and very handy to stop there on the way to and from further away sites. It is not perfect- when it was last refurbished, there were silly things like grass areas you had to cross to get onto your hard standing , and the entrance has always been a bit tricky onto a narrow road that locals seem to treat as a race track.
Anyway, I try to use my motor home every month of the year, so this evening I went onto the website to book Cherry Hinton in the Jan-Mar period, as after all, it is open all year round.
Slight problem- Cherry Hinton does not currently appear on the open all year pages! Funny - when I stayed there in October, there was no notice displayed about forthcoming closure, and the wardens did not say anything.
I navigated to the Cherry Hinton pages - open all year, it says. I looked at the booking dates pages- site nights not available from 3 Jan 2018! Aargh!
I navigated to the redevelopment page- sure enough, Cherry Hinton was included! Good news- pitches being sorted out, and the entrance area. I am glad to see that. BUT- no details of closure or reopening!
Why can't the website update team get their act together so that closure changes are accurately shown? Why can't members be told fully about such closures rather than just finding that the booking pages have been locked.

Just for the record I followed the link to site re-development. Excellent. Told me Beechwood Grange was opening on 7 Set 2018. We were thinking about visiting here in Summer. So I asked 'Live Chat' if they could tell me when it was closing.
Told to wait until after 6th of December! So I can't make plans for next year.
Helpful or what? Get into the real world East Grinstead and try to focus on your customers (members)

Just checked Beechwood webpage and no bookings being taken after 3 Jan 2018,so think it will then reopen after the major work on 7th Sep 2018 ,but if it goes well as some do it may open earlier which will hopefully be advised as in the past by HO on here

Even more interesting that this month's feature in the Magazine is Yorkshire sites including the "all year" Beechwood Grange" which having been featured will now close from January to September. Even the front cover picture is York which with Beechwood closed and Rowntree Park probably solid booked on 6th December hardly needs more publicity. That's what I call good planning!
