Elddis 180 motorhome, leisure battery charger fail

Okay, I'm going slightly insane here after 2 days of messing around, pulling out panels, tapping relays and inadvertently tapping the fuel cut off unit and killing the engine I thought, only to find it has a reset on top (phew) .. not to mention calling
elddis twice and even asking on their fb page and getting a different answer every time lol.

In a nutshell, two things have occurred I think simultaneously.

1. The leisure battery is no longer charging when the engine is running.

2. The internal 12V supply is no longer disconnecting when i start the engine.

The battery charges just fine when hooked up to the mains via the van's EHU so I'd asume it's not the built in charger under the rear seat and since both faults seem to have developed together I was expecting to find a 2 pole relay somewhere that has failed.
Therein lies the problem, I cannot find it anywhere, local dealers seem unable to help, elddis have given me three answers now, one said it's on the engine bulkhead by the battery (It's not but the fuel cut-off actuator is .. don't tap that like i did !) another
said it may be hardwired in on the block that the mcb's are on (nope took the cover off and just the mcb's n rcb) and finally they said ah the 2006  just trickle charges from the cab battery (surely that would just drain the cab battery when the ignition is
off ? )

To add pain to it all, the wiring diagrams are truly terrible and make very little sense at all .. and I used to draw circuits for a living !

Has anyone ever had this problem and rectified it ... before I tear whats left of my hair out lol.... ?

     Hi Daemonix,

We have a 2013 Elddis Autoquest 175 which have developed the same fault that you describe. Did you resolve the problem, if so what was at fault and how was it put right.

It certainly sounds like a relay problem but sorry I cannot help with the actual location of the offending device. Is it possible the device is electronic rather than mechanical?

agree with Peedee, its likely to be a relay issue.

i had the same issue with my daughters PVC....i was getting no increased charge level on the liesure battery with the engine running.

i traced it to a split charge relay that was not earthed properly. i put in a decent earth and the split charge came through straight away.

sorry i cant help you with the location of this relay, but this issue may have been of some use.

    good luck.

One of these days we might get an explanation as to why these old posts keep coming to the surface. Is someone behind the scenes fishing them out?

So please explain what the date of the original OP got to do with it ?

It's a problem I have and a problem Deamonix had. If he resolved the problem the he may be able to help. Does that not make sense ?, it does to me.

Seeing the OP hasn’t posted since March, there’s not much chance of him seeing and reponding to your post, Doretti.

However, the date has more to do with the idiosyncrasies of this forum than your query. I think it’s unlikely you resurrected a near 3 year old thread so its appearance is a mystery.

That's all, there’s no one having a go at you.

Ahh, I think the penny has just dropped. Many of the old posts exist but only the original OPs. Its is only the responses made which have been lost in the upgrade so I guess it was in fact doretti who noticed it and resurected it by posting against it because of the same problem.

How would anyone find a 3 year old thread when the search facility doesn't work properly, PD? Via Google, maybe, but it’s unlikely.

I've been away to a dark corner and calmed down a bit.

Yes, I arrived at the OP via a Google search.

That's the internet for you, lots and lots of seemingly duff, forgotten and Deleted User information and data hiding away in dusty cobwebbed corners waiting to be resurrected by the probing finger of a search engine.

I was (am) hopefully the original poster is still around and can throw some light on the problem .... you never know.

There was nothing to get up tight about, Doretti.

I hope you get sorted but somehow I doubt the OP will see it.

If you have nothing better to do you can also page a discussion back a long, long way, possibly even as far back as the start of CT.

    Got the problem sorted.

It was a faulty relay in the CBE SRX 250 Relay Fuse Box that's located in the bottom of the "B" post.

    Glad you fixed it, Doretti.
