Breakdown service just for caravan
I'm looking for breakdown and recovery service for my caravan, I don't need it for the car as its a company car and covered elsewhere but that does not cover the van.
Can anyone suggest a good one?

I would have thought it very difficult to organise, unless you could pay for it as an extra with the same company your firm uses. Otherwise if the car breaks down, why would the other company want to recover the caravan, when there is nothing wrong with it. Other than it is minus its tow car of course.

Lifesure do that sort of caravan only breakdown cover but UK only - priced at £15 a year.

Interested, I took a look:
a) only available as an add-on to a general caravan insurance with them.
b) these exclusions:
Assistance following an accident.
Any breakdown where the caravan is rendered immobile due to a fault with the towing vehicle0 -
have you tried the Caravan and Camping Club? I am going with their recovery service this year its cheaper than the caravan and motorhome club and you get a £15.00 voucher

No. It's available for a mere £10 as an add on to their caravan insurance. The £15 price is for free standing Caravan breakdown cover.
Assistance following an an accident is covered by your normal car insurance. Let's not confuse accidents with breakdowns. This Lifesure policy is not for accidents and not for car breakdowns - it's for caravan breakdowns. I think it meets what the OP was asking for.

As I have a Motability lease car but no caravan cover.
I have an RAC caravan upgrade and I have been advised it is now ceasing, contacted the CC and they contacted me later to advise that they do not currently offer this service but may look into it in the future.
Please lobby the club.
I have written a letter regards this on a discussion page but it does not appear here.

Even if the club provided this service, it would almost certainly use the Green Flag recovery organisation, as this is what the Mayday cover uses. As your car insurance is with the RAC as part of the mobility package, there would be a problem with van recovery if just the car broke down. Why would Green Flag want to recover the caravan when there is nothing wrong with it?
My advice would be to take out Mayday, you will then be covered for all eventualities.

We had a similar question the other day where the Motability user said he was committed to using the RAC.
The general consensus of advice was to upgrade to RAC Arrival which is the equivalent of Mayday and provides cover for caravans of any size and weight. The drawback, depending on your point of view, is the need to join C&CC as Arrival is for their members only.
It's in this thread from poster lewisjack.

Steve thank you for your unhelpful comments. Being a disabled pensioner I need to make the best use of my money and to pay out extra for a service which I do not require seems unfair to me especially as up to now we have been able to use the RAC upgrade to cover the caravan which I was happy to pay, I don't understand why they are ceasing this service as I am sure many customers on the Motability scheme or company car scheme would have found this very useful. With regard to your comment about recovering the caravan if there is nothing wrong with it its very difficult to move the caravan if you do not have a car, should I just leave the caravan at the side of the road.
