Just two..and yes it is in the peak season. Site in this particular instance is Seacroft at Cromer...2 adults * £10.90 + pitch at £13.90 = £35.70. To guarantee a hard standing (there are sloping, messy grass pitches here) it is best to book a serviced pitch..another £4.50 (e). = £40:20 pn.

But that is cheap in comparison to a neighbour who has 3 children. His cost per night is boosted by £4:80 pn per child to £54:60 pn...and as I said previously all for just 65 sq mtrs(e) of gravel with your nose end looking across a 1 mtr wide roadway into the unit opposite.

Morris Leisure's Discount is from £1.90 to £2.10 a night for a couple at the Ludlow site.

We don't use serviced pitches. Stayed a Seacroft for 5 nights in June/July a few years ago. When I checked (purely out of interest) they were competitive with similar commercials in that area.

But Seacroft isn't a typical club site with quote:

bar, restaurant, games room and outdoor heated swimming pool. During peak season, visitors can enjoy a lively programme of varied entertainment and special events.

All that extra expenditure and staffing has to be paid for somehow?

PS That's one site I would personally not go to, even when we had younger children)

Thanks ET. So that would mean, Stanmore Hall is £9 to £22 more expensive per week, in June, than Chatsworth, depending on pitch type selected.

Not tremendously significant in the scheme of things. However, certainly not cheaper, and Chatsworth is one of the more expensive club sites.

Generally, if booking well in advance, I think the CAMC is likely to be similar or slightly less than most commercials of a similar quality. Where they score is on the bargain breaks, which are not generally released much ahead of time.

I did say short notice and not holiday deals. The 3 for 2 last week gave us a 5 * site cheaper than the poor Lady Margaret. Compare like for like as I do and only use sites I have used as comparison so first hand knowledge. As I said each to his own. I liked the fact there was only 7 vans on the site, almost like a CL.with all the fascilities thrown in. and only £16-70 per night for Van + 2.

We used it purely for it's location. We had no interest in using bar, restaurant, games room and outdoor heated swimming pool. Nor availing of the entertainment. Our only requirement was a hard stand preferably. I think we actually got the last one available.

If the site that you used was Betws Y Coed that is not really what I would consider as an alternative to Lady Margaret as they are 40 miles apart. Or was it/ is there a closer ML site to Lady Margaret's.

    Predictive text?

We don't spend that much time on site normally so for us the site was fine. It was near capacity I think and so popular

Some of my great memories on sites abroad is watching Euro/World Cup matches surrounded by other nationalities.

For some in the UK having the extra facilities that they don't want does detract from their appeal as the costs are higher and they are paying for what they do not wish to use.

Personally for what Seacroft provided I considered it to be well priced even if I did not require the facilities.

Who said ALternative. We van all year and use the dscounts  when they apply. When we now go to Chirk way we have found a better commercial site as its alternative. Splitting hairs!!

The rise in motorcaravan ownership, narrow roads and the fact the site's needs to be on a bus route does have an effect on the tourining fraternity plus side more pitches for the caravan😎😎

No, not splitting hairs at all. I have used the ML site at B-Y-C. did not do so as an alternative to a Chirk sight though. The most important thing for us is location and one site leads to the next. When we used Riverside ML site we then went on to
    Uttoxeter Racecourse
    Clumber Park, Worksop
    Hebden Bridge
    Blackshaw Moor Leek
    Capesthorne Hall Caravan Park

    Home near Chester.

It matters not how good the offer if not in the right place.

    Capesthorne Hall Caravan Park

Was that a fairly recent visit?  Certainly brings back memories as we used to go there quite a few weekends some years ago to meet up with friends.  I remember the toiletblock being in part of the (?annexe of) the house, it was quite quaint really from what I remember.  Only had grass then if memory serves me right.  What did you think of it, Alan?

Not overly impressed; we were there last week of September. Did not check out the grounds or house due to weather and weddings. Pitches were hard stand and cars on grass.

For me it would have benefited from hard stand to awning area (I don't use one). Toilet block was good but doubt enough showers if busy ........... I don't queue but then at 6.30am I wouldn't even if it were busy. I was happy enough with the site but OH felt it a bit spooky. Dunno, woman thing. Last time in the area, 3 years ago, we stayed at Vale Royal site near Holmes Chapel and I preferred Capesthorne. Next time in the area I would prefer the recent award winning CL.

Splitting hairs, Of course we did not go just for the price - who would? We used the stay to go to Bodnant Gardens,Conway for their Mussels and Llandudno. Its an excellent location smack in the middle of Snowdonia. Pitty CC don't have a site in proper North Wales

Thanks for that response, Alan.  Must have changed a bit then, as can't remember hardstandings.  There weren't many showers then either, so that doesn't appear to have improved.  Must admit, we used to enjoy it there, but sites can change quite a bit over the years and not always for the better, so I just wondered what you thought of it.  Thanks.

We have friends who live just west of Ruthin, we generally use LMP at Chirk so we are not towing the van so far off our north/south route, but it is a fair way to drive from LMP to their place.

Do any of you who regularly go to that area have suggestions for a better placed site with hardstands?

We did use a CL in Ruthin once, but were not too impressed with it as the access road was narrow and in a terrible state, the grass was uncut, and the disposal facilities not great.

There is a nice CL, Brookhouse Farm opposite the Brookhouse Mill pub at Denbigh. Not stayed here but the pub is good.  Although grass, it is open all year so must have fairly good ground and there is EHU and water to all pitches. The CL at the airfield, Lleweni Parc is also open all year and has one hardstanding which you can book on line.

I think you will have to go to the coast to find a site open all year with hardstandings and they are not all that brilliant.

PS in the Summer there is Station House at Bodfari, a short walk to another excellent pub.

And yet the sites will be full.... so good business on behalf of the club. If members can’t afford it then book elsewhere.

Agree with David2115, and for all those who have only used 1 CAMHC site in 12 months and are planning to use less, then why are you members of the CAMHC club?, save yourself 50 quid and move on.cool Have'nt you realised yet that the CAMHC is a business and a very successful one at that, so no matter how much you moan and groan on CT you are going to have very little impact on how CAMHC runs the business, oh! I forgot CAMHC do offer lots of discounts on various things we all need like insurance, ferries, coupons for overseas site discounts (and i note that a lot of those who contribute to CT are regular overseas travellers), well I never !!!!!!!!!!!
