Which site for Salisbury?

I have been roughing out details of one of my 3 trips for 2018. I am looking for a site near Salisbury. We have not used the CC site  Salisbury Hillside  in the past as I prefer a hard standing generally and there seem to be few and also described as not very level.

At the moment we are wavering between Salisbury Hillside CC site and Coombe Caravan Park, Race Plain, Netherhampton, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP2 8PN where there appear to be some bookable hard standings.

Any views on either or alternative suggestions please?

The last time we visited Salisbury we stayed at the C&CC site. No hardstandings as such but very convenient for the City by either walking or bus.

ET, we used the C&CC site this year, there are plastic reinforced grass HSs, which the warden said were to be improved over the winter, we found them fine, and the site was spacious, pretty flat pitches,  good facilities, and very handy for the town.

We stayed at Hillside this year, nice site but from memory all the hard standings are in the wooded bit's and require going up & down hill for fresh and waste water and to use the showers. The top level bit is all grass. I did leave a review for it with a lot more detail if you look on the Club review pagesmile

    Here you are:smile

    "Great site
Just spent 5 nights at this site, I have to say I can't understand why some reviewers mark it down? The pitches are well laid out and you can choose to stay on the main open grass area near the wardens hut or the many grass or hard standing ones in among the wooded areas. Only down side of the latter is it's quite hilly when it comes to filling your water canisters and getting rid of your grey water. The wardens were very pleasant to deal with and keep the site and facilities immaculate. There is a great dog walk down the side of the site that leads in to a large wild meadow, three fields down. It is quite remote but does have a local bus service with a stop near the gate. there are two local pubs The George inn & The Silver Plough. (not within walking distance) The Silver Plough being the better of the two. Both are also dog friendly if you wish to eat there. There is also a very large, well stocked Budgen's at the petrol station near the Army base, this is about a mile and half from the site and appeared to have everything you could ever need. There is also a large Caravan dealers/repairers close by if you encounter any issues with your outfit during your stay. Not a great site for younger children unfortunately due to lack of green space. Also when deciding on a pitch, if you wish to get a decent TV signal be mindful of the very tall trees in the wooded areas. We stayed on Pitch 27 and the signal was a bit hit and miss but we didn't go there to watch the TV anyway :-) Would we go again? without question, if only for the peace and quite and to watch the hovering Red Kites."

We stayed at CMC Salisbury sites a couple of years ago for 10 nights & found it very good , plenty of choice regarding H/S pitch location on secluded parts just for a small number of units.

Like an early poster said pitches behind reception / toilet block are grass pitches , I've  just checked .

Easy access from North or South , although site is outside Salisbury the city is only 15 minutes drive from site , good roads to New Forest & south coast & a vast number of attractions to visit .

We really enjoyed our stay & would return no problem .

We used the CAMC Hillside site once. It’s aptly named and we wouldn't return. Another time I’d go for the C&CC site.

Is 11 miles too far away?   Green Hill  Farm offers all sorts of choices such as hard standing or grass, an area of family pitches, an area for adults only, a dog free area, fishing lakes, wild fowl and bird watching areas, free wi - fi and so on.

Alan, the C&CC site is fine, for us the location is the key and being just 30mins walk (1.5m) or 10mins on the bike is very handy.

one caveat, the site (due to location, for sure) can get busy as you,ove towards the 'season' and attracts plenty of tents and campervans, folk who like to be outside (eating, drinking and making merry....wink) if conditions allow...

depending on time of year, it might be a bit 'bouyant' for some tastes...

also, the reinforced grass pitches can seem a bit narrow.....

none of the above stops us using this site regularly...smile

PS....as ypure in the C&CC, look out for their THS program as the field next door to the 'proper' site is a popular venue several times a year, no booking reqd...£8-9 a night, and a couple of hundred yards nearer the town...
