Pitch Prices 2018

Anyone had the chance to look at the prices for 2018. Just had email from Club.
Yes some fees held but it looks to me like we won’t get a pitch in May, June, July, August and some September for much less than £30 a night for two adults. Some over £33!
Is the Club just getting too expensive?

This year I've done one club site. Next year is likely to be less.

To answer your question, yes it is. That is why I use CLs and next year I will also take a look at private sites.
Obviously plenty of members will still use club sites and that is their choice.

Just compared 5 sites we used this year and may revisit next year. One price frozen and rest increases between 80p and £1.70 per night for 2 persons at peak times but we are not likely to use any at peak times. Other dates increase is nothing to 90p per night and is not likely to affect our choice of these sites. The biggest increase 90p per night is York RP which we will still use in February/March.

Every year we use fewer club sites, can't see this changing next year.

off topic but Troutbeck Head seems to have set it's half term peak price in October for Scottish schools, and off peak for English schools?

Post edit yes Coniston and Meathrop Fell are the right way round, but Kendal isn't? Does kendal and TH attract Scottish club members?

We've used 3 CC sites this year out of a total of about 45 different ones, the rest being CLs and small commercial sites, and i can't see that changing much next year.
BTW I'm glad to see the list has included the new CLs and those that have closed too. However the latter is short of at least 11 others, and it may well be more.

Looking at some sites we have used in 2016 the rise seems to be in the order of 3 to 5%. So above inflation, but about what I was expecting. One that I find a little surprising is Malvern, which although not overly popular in 2016, has still increased by 4%.

Last site we stayed at was Broadway which has gone up by £1 which is about 4%. I can't get too exercised about it as we haven't made any plans yet for next year and we usually work on a trip by trip basis and its generally more important to us where sites are.

The question is however how much did Malvern increase by last year? Inflation has apparently been 3% this year and so a 3% inflation could be seen as standing still.
We have just started initial planning for our next holidays. We hope to make some use of the C&CC sites.

Sorry ET I got my years mixed up I meant 2017. I agree about cost increases. However, in a year when it was difficult to get into a lot of sites, unless booked early, Malvern always had plenty of availability, even for weekends.
It seems strange to price freeze Chatsworth, which is often full. Yet apply a 4% increase to sites like Malvern

I expect that most others will put up their general prices by a similar percentage, if not more. However, some of these will run special deals which are clearly attractive to those who can take advantage off them. However, a lot are for mid week, restricted number of days and cannot be booked far in advance, so do not fit in with the way we tour. Since we retired we rarely go away just for a few days.
For us I suspect the CAMC will be as competitive as the majority of the opposition, given the way we book and tour.
No sites to book next autumn, as we are trying a seasonal. I have no idea if these have increased on previous years, but it does work out very good value

Looks like we will be needing to take more time away in UK, in school holidays, next year due to arrival of new grandchild, predicted for 6th March.
Son in law is a teacher so has first 2 weeks in April off to be home to help, so thinking to take 3-4 weeks in April for our first trip of the year.
Looks like Easter is not considered peak in Scotland by C&CC, prices are £17.50-£19 per night for us, HS with electricity, so I think we will try some of their Scottish sites.
Summer holiday will have to be CLs.
May venture abroad in late August.
Prices are certainly making us think twice about Club sites.

We only use Club Sites, and in truth select ones, during off peak periods. Thankfully, most of the £14 per night Sites and MWD are still in place. The CL network remains our prime reason for membership renewal. We set ourselves an average pitch price per night, so we occasionally have a more expensive night, off set by a bargain somewhere else. Those tied to holidaying at set times in one location will have to pay more, regardless of if they choose Club or commercial.

This year, the areas we wanted to tour did not have suitable CMC sites so we did not spend any money buying an annual CMC discount card. ---.An increase of overnight charges would not have put us off. ----We pay the going rate for a convenient location no matter who the supplier is----. It's to do with value for money. Brand loyalty is a thing of the past !!!

The prices appear high but doubtless are in line with comparable commercial sites, like for like. We'll still use them in low season and when they offer good value in areas we want to visit. But we'll doubtless look at CLs or C&CC sites more than previously.

I've used three club sites in the last couple of weeks, after the schools went back, so that's basically November outside school holidays. A Sunday night at Chapel Lane, site in my estimate 85% full or more, Daleacres mid week in my estimate 50% full & Black Knowl, 100% full and had to leave as I couldn't extend my booking....
So prices aren't yet affecting occupancy, nor can I see them doing so....
It's not worth moaning I suspect, just vote with your feet if they don't suit you.....

Some Club sites are just too expensive for what you get - even if they are comparable with others!
I've just booked 2 gites (a week in each) in France for next June, one near Saumur and one near La Rochelle. Saumur is £50 a night and La Rochelle £75 - for that I'm getting what looks like beautiful fully furnished cottage including towels, bed linen, electricity, bbqs etc, acres of garden and a private swimming pool in each - yes the pool to myself and the missus (and the gite owners!)
This is just a change, we love our caravan but wouldn't pay £30 for a bit of grass and some electricity on a far too regimented Club site.
Apologies to North York Moors site - you're not in that bracket!

Out of interest just compared Rowntree Park last week in February 2018 with Travelodge just the other side of the river in central York. Rowntree £21.80 per night for two adults Travelodge £56.00 per night midweek unless you want to pay up front now with no refund then£44.00 per night. Friday/Saturday night £124.00 per night. I think that's the best comparison I can make and even without the increased cost at the Travelodge I know I would rather stay in my caravan.
But then you pay your money and take your choice!

I would say that with the cost of running a caravan and some extra fuel costs that the costs are about the same. However with the caravan you are not having to pay for breakfast (for me the cost of 3 slices of medium small wholemeal loaf in caravan) Evening meal will be cheaper as well.
