Chatsworth
Hi,
We're booked into Chatsworth in a couple of weeks for the weekend. I understand there is a trail you can use to walk into Baslow. We'll probably be dining in Baslow one evening so would leave a car at the site if possible so was wondering how suitable this walk is in the dark and whether you need walking shoes or not?
Thanks in advance,
Andy.

Andy, the path to Baslow is through the gate into the estate and turn left then keep going. At night you'd need a torch and some sort of walking shoes, not boots but it can get quite mucky in places.
Whilst staying at Chatsworth, can I give my oft repeated recommendation for a trip up to The Packhorse at Little Longstone? It's a great pub, food and drink wise, family and dog friendly ( and, no, they don't pay me comission to plug them! )

This time a year a good torch is essential as it will be very dark for most of the path. Good walking shoes as it can be a bit mucky in places. Also some mint sauce to keep away the killer sheep!!!
We have eaten at the Wheatsheaf a number of times and it has always been good.

Don’t forget you get 20% off at The Wheatsheaf Monday to Friday on production of your membership card. Good traditional pub grub.
We were there the weekend before last for the fireworks and all the sheep had been moved from the park adjacent to the site. Lots of rain so the path to Baslow was extremely mucky. We’re there again this coming weekend for the Christmas market and I suspect the sheep will still be missing as they use that bit of the park for additional car parking.
You could always walk down the road from the site. Save you getting mucky but you’ll still need a torch.

Hi,
We're off to Chatsworth tomorrow well prepared and armed with some useful information.
Thanks all!

We went up to Chatsworth Christmas market yesterday. Just drove up and met family members - didn't take the caravan. Very busy but managed to pick up some Hartington Cheese - quite like Snowdonia cheese in quality.

You'll also need a torch to find the back gate and fit the key into the lock. But go for it. It's a good clear path.

Or get a torch app on your mobile phone, it would help with the key if not the walk.
