The M&S Christmas advert is lovely.

Not heard anything about it yet but the Independent newspaper is speculating a release date of around 9/10th November but not sure on what that is based on or whether it's guesswork?

The staff of John Lewis revealed part of the secret yesterday according to the Sun newspaper and others. It is supposed to be shown for the first time on Friday this week. The video was also (allegedly) posted to the John Lewis Facebook page but it may be This one
And here's a part of the ASDA offering

Yes!
The point being I suppose is that JL, over years, have tended to set the trend with the quality of its Christmas advertisements so there is a curiosity as to whether they can come up with one that is better than the previous one. Also, as a result, other retailers have had to up their game so a sense of competition exists as they all spend more and more money. I am not suggesting that people will watch it over and over again but as I said there is a curiosity that exists. Half of the expectation seems to be centred around which music they will decide to cover and then we have the debate whether it's better or worse than the original.

Must admit I saw this one a few days ago, thought it was the JL one right up to the last moment. Must say I think it's the better.

Oh that's lovely. I prefer that to the John Lewis one.
My reaction to the JL advert in the first few seconds was that it could quite easily plant ideas about monsters under the bed and cause lots of problems for parents and children. By the time it reached the end I thought it was quite cute but not as good as earlier ones.

JL and M&S both rather boring. Monsters and burglars? At least the Tesco ad, one of a series of 5 this year is a tad more cheerful and realistic.

Good grief! Do people really watch adverts?
I tape programmes and then replay certain parts at 'fast forward' to get rid of the irritating ads.
Usually if I do have to suffer their imposition I make a mental note to NOT buy that particular product.
After all if I doesn't speak for itself it must be completely worthless in the first place, and may therefore be safely ignored

I rather like the Waitrose Christmas Ad, even Goldie might even appreciate the irony?

Have just seen the Aldi one....now that seems to be the best so far.
I like the "Very" one too.

We rarely watch live TV. If you start watching programmes 15 mins late, you can wind through adverts and it still finishes at the same time... Oh and John Lewis ?? Not really that aware of them although I've heard the name. We don't have one locally, so the ad. wouldn't impact on us anyway.

What a staggeringly negative comment. We can’t keep up with Blue Planet, BBC and foreign drama, Helen Czerski, Have I Got News For You, QI, the list goes on - more then filling our own time available for TV, which is typically less than two hours/ night. No one needs to watch ‘rubbish’ TV with today’s choices.
