Seacroft Arrival Time

We have voted with our wheels. After over 40 years with CC we joined C&CC 6 years ago for more choice of sites. In first 4 years we did about 40 nights with C&CC to 60 with this club and some rallies each year. After change to 1.00 pm arrival time started and because we also do not like their booking system or deposits this year over 100 nights CAMC plus rallies and only 7 nights C&CC. The 7 nights is only because we much prefer Scarborough Burniston to West Ayton. On five occasions we have stayed on CAMC sites adjacent to or within 5 miles of C& CC sites that would have been a little cheaper. If CAMC bring back deposits equal to C&CC and adopt 1.00pm arrival time then we would seriously consider more commercial sites as any advantage to us would be gone.

Similar to you Forest I have I have joined the C&CC after around 35 years as a CC member. For the same reason - additional choices. I have no idea how many, if any, of their sites I shall use this year. Until I plan next years tours I will not know. I doubt that it will be more than 3 sites with a total of 15 nights. I may be wrong. For the same reasons as yourself I doubt that they will become a primary choice.

We tried about 10 C&CC sites and in our experience their HS pitches are not as big as CAMC and sometimes are only grass reinforced with plastic. This is the case at Scarborough but we really like the location almost in town and on a bus route. The only other site we really liked was Teversel, which has excellent facilities and proper HS pitches but even they are not as big as CAMC. Conkers is also a reasonable site but has a prefabricated toilet block.

I so often read that "membership numbers are up, so they must be doing the right thing". That is completely daft logic. The numbers could just as easily be up even further if this "right thing" was not being done.
I think we should embrace this no arrivals before 2pm idea. Then it will move to 3pm, and perhaps even 4pm before the problem of so many arriving at the same time becomes finally obvious to these mandarins at head office who don't really go caravanning but want to control how those who do so are forced to live their lives.
However, I have found a way to alleviate the problem of the arrival day being too short by reversing the caravan onto the chosen pitch, fitting the security devices and getting away off to enjoy the day. When I return, even if late and in the dark, I can turn the caravan if required, and set it up properly. I would not claim I could do it blindfold, but I've done it often enough to be able to do it in the dark - assisted of course by the floodlights on the caravan and the Land Rover.
