Site Redevelopments - 2018
For the attention of Rowena and perhaps Sites Manager Emma Cox.
With the fast approaching 'frenzy day' is there any possibility of some up to the minute details of what sites are to be redeveloped in this coming season and the periods that they are scheduled to be closed for?
Whilst all the plans might note be in place, it would be helpful if any proposals whilst not finalised could be included as a guide.
This will help in our planned 2018 outings.
Many thanks.

EasyT,
Many thanks. Not quite sure how to draw this to the attention of the 'powers that be'. Assistance appreciated.

Interesting Ina. Thanks for link.
Just 2 notes:-
1. Great to see new pitches being made available at Cadeside. There was rumour last year that this site was earmarked for selling.
2. Troutbeck hasn't been open that long, so why does it need so much work doing to it? Did they get it wrong first time?

Hi everyone,
Some of the redevelopment works on sites will be affecting the site opening date next year.
As previously mentioned the link to the site redevelopment page is here.
If we have a mild winter and works progress well, there is a chance that some completion dates can be brought forward. We will advise closer to the time if this is the case.

It's good to see that the conversion of motorhome service points seems to be gathering pace generally.

InaD and Rowena, many thanks that is what I was looking for. Think it was worth asking at this stage as when in Penrhos, Anglesea this year there was talk of the rebuilding of the toilet block. This is missing from the list; so assume deferred. Also At West Ayton which had a planning notice advising of the redevelopment of the two toilet blocks. Again missing from the list and so assume business as usual.
I thought I might have got an 'instant answer' on the West Ayton situation as when browsing the link the 'chat' invite appeared. No experience of this and had a punt. Response was referral to Yorkshire regional manager and a response within twenty days. And there was I thinking it would resolve instantly my dilemma!!
But again. thanks for the 'link' details.

Would have thought Lady Margaret would be a priority in view of poor service block. Those on the list must be in a desparate state then.Fortunately we have found an alternative in the Chirk area. but the chances we will stay with them permanently.

York Beechwood Grange closed until 7th September, wow that's going to be a blow to many who can't get into Rowntree. When does the works start? does it mean that's the whole of the summer its going to be out of action?
Troutbeck Head and Buxton also out for the summer months.
Great to see sites getting upgrades but why during the summer months.

I agree crazing being closed all that time, the housing developers in our village have built 38 houses including putting in all access roads and services in less time than it takes to revamp a site as you say CL owners should do well out of it hopefully.

I suppose the length of time they are closed in the good weather will be to allow for potential stand downs due to severe winter weather. Troutbeck is at 980 feet and Buxton a massive 1300 feet. That can make quite a difference to the time spent below zero. The CC are perhaps just allowing for another severe one like 2010. Personally I prefer this approach. If you book your two weeks holiday on frenzy day, it is nice to know they have not cut it too fine.

Have those who think Lady Margaret is OK tried alternatives like Haven & Morris Leisure, to see what the commercial sector consider adequate these days .They would have an eye opener, particularly if they took off their rose tinted speks

Tried three Morris leisure (Bridgenorth and Betws-Y- Coed) used this year. Facilities are indeed OK. Not something that I tend to get excited about. Happy enough with facilities at CC sites in general. I dislike swanky commercial sites that fail to provide privacy cubicles as some don't however.

York Beechwood Grange closed until September!!!!! Surely not. That's unbelievable. As TG says we have also had small housing development built in less time near us. The redevelopment work at Hawes site took 6 months and as we have just returned from there cannot really see why, yes the loo block is nice and fresh but nothing special. Also the local community suffered greatly due to the lack of income from the visitors which has led to the possible closure of one of the pubs in the town. It's not just members that suffer from these closures it's the wider community too.

Have also stayed at the ML sites at Bridgnorth and BYC and they are indeed OK. However, nothing to get over excited about in my opinion. Indeed to my mind the facilities at BYC would be totally inadequate when the site is full at peak and the camping area is also heavily in use. Four showers and WC's is just not enough. I can't remember about Bridgnorth, but in general CAMC sites seem to have a higher ratio of facilities than the commercials we have stayed on.
Also of course tent campers are few and far between on CC sites, so there is not the added strain in the better weather.

With so many closed for extended periods over the peak season one can't help a swift passing thought about the club agenda 😉. Promotes itself as a leisure industry and shoots itself in the foot when income would be greatest.
Very valid point about Hawes, there's a thread somewhere on here with the parish council minutes about the refurb closure time and the proposals submitted by the club 🙄. This sort of thing will not endure locals to welcome us to help their economy.

I always think Morris leisure sites are suspiciously like CMC sites. Recently stayed at their excellent Llanberis site. Perhaps one major difference over Club sites is that they tend to have a shop selling mainly caravan accessories.

I know that lengthy site closures make touring more difficult and the Yorkshire sites had a number of redevelopment closures this year and will now have more next year. However at least it seems the club have recognised the need for improvement and extension to sites on one side of the Pennines to provide for increased demand in the long term.
On the question of 1.00 pm earliest arrival time as some will know the C & CC introduced this generally two years ago and we observed the effect first hand on their site at Scarborough in June. Having been allocated a pitch near one exit gate which overlooked the arrival gates and large car park we saw the effect on a number of days. This site has a much larger arrivals area and car park than any CAMC site that we have ever visited but by 1.00 pm it was completely full more than once and there was a queue onto the lane outside. It was not possible to exit the site from the gate near us due to the queue. The enforcement of the 1.00 pm arrival time was rigid and nobody was allowed on early. So I have to agree that the move to a 1.00 pm earliest arrival does not seem to be an improvement.
