been touring now for five years and loved it. My OH and I like national trust, quaint villages, nice eating pubs,and prefer good CL sites any ideas folks?

    Practically anywhere in the UK will fit that criteria.

    We started with the National Parks. Once we ticked off all those we moved on to visiting all the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We wanted to do the Coastal Tour but we now live close enough to the sea so the Coastal Tour has lost its attraction. Friends have been on English Gardens Tour, Cathedrals Tour - you don't have to visit every cathedral but where there is a cathedral, there is usually an interesting history, Shires Tour [visiting counties whose name ends in 'shire'], Canal Tour - by motorhome and not in the water, criss crossing long distance footpaths, Market Towns of England Tour. We've done Industrial Heritage Tours, Tudor England Tours. For inspiration, we also keep an eye on:

    Then there is the EU Tour ...

    None of these are organised tours. They're just headings and you fill in the detail to suit. Reading blogs sometimes will add additional insights.

    Try some island breaks, plenty to choose from, Isle of Wight to Shetland and all the others! smile

    Well that's just the same as us. Where would be your favourite CL and NT location for each UK region?

    Were you aware that the NT has a couple of caravan sites?

    Have seen the one in mid wales by the gold mine and would stay there myself but haven't as was on another site nearby.

    Gibsons, you name the area that you want to visit and there are plenty on CT who will be able to point you in the right direction as far as both CLs and N/T properties are concerned. Would also advise taking up the CC's discount on the Historic Houses Association, as that then gets you free access to many of the larger houses and gardens that are not part of the N/T, eg Castle Howard, Beaulieu, Leeds Castle but to name a few.

    The Sherlock Holmes in me has deduced you live just North of Manchester! With that in mind, why not consider a Roman tour, taking in some of the wonderful scenery, NT, EH and other locations, on and close to Hadrians Wall? You could do end to end, as there are some great CLs and campsites all along the Wall, some are close to big cities such as Newcastle and Carlisle, others well off the beaten track in small villages and farms all along the Wall. Great Pubs, great food, great scenery. We did the Wall over a couple of years, and found some good places to stay and visit. laughing

    many thanks for all your replies, might try that wall thing it sounds interesting, as we continue touring my lobster is getting smaller so might adopt a pot luck or pin in the map system, again thanks for the advice

    The Solway coast is one to add to your list.  The beaches are empty and there are many interesting places to explore.  The exhibition "The Devils porridge" is worth seeking out.  Gardens, castles and interesting towns, such as the book town of Wigton.

    Here's a new route that takes in some of the best coastal scenery in the south (of Scotland). Sufficient caravan parks and CLs to make it into a leisurely stay. Southwest 300:

    Thanks for adding that link CW, we are interested in revisiting Dumfries and Galloway. We found some great CLs last time.
