Oyster Fixed Satellite - Changes to Astra 2

We last used the Caravan at the end of September without issue but yesterday we just couldn’t get the Oyster Satellite dish to lock on.

As a result of speaking to Jackson’s Leisure Satellites where we purchased it we discovered that last week Sky changed the Transponder Frequencies for Astra 2. This results in fixed roof satellites failing to lock on and continuing to rotate searching for the previous frequencies.

If you haven’t used your Oyster satellite since mid October it probably won’t work next time out unless you re programme it!

Jacksons have provided very useful instructions of how to set up your dish for the new settings. If you are unable to do so you can return the control box and they will do it for you for a fee.

Go to their Home Page at ‘www.jacksonsuk.com’ and at the bottom of that page under ‘News’ click on reset Instructions.

We are no experts but by following the guidance at the foot of the ‘reset page’ we managed to get ours up and running again by changing the settings.

Hope this is helpful information to those of you with fixed Oyster Dishes👍

We had the same issue with our Mecatronic dish in the middle of June. Worked one day but not the next exactly the same symptoms. I contacted Road Pro who installed the system and they were awaiting a software upgrade. Once that was installed it's been fine. Seems strange different systems fail to lock on at different times. You would have thought they would all go off line at the same time?

we have had the same Teleco Flatsat Smart for the past three years and, other than for line of sight reasons, its never not locked on to Astra 2 despite the odd service satellite frequency change.

for other reasons....(i was cleaning the rof of the van) i put the dish up today and it tuned to Astra 2 straight away.

ive seen loads of posts on all forums where Oyster dishes suddenly dont tune in.....needing 'updating'.....ive never had this issue with the Teleco....anyone know why?

Its probably down to what frequencies the Teleco uses to lock on and there have not been whole sale changes to these for some time. I have not any difficulty with the Tracvision installed on my motorhome either.

Just checked and the last time I changed the frequencies which the Tracvision locks onto was in June 2015.

Looking back at some old records I have of transponder frequencies dated Feb 2016, it looks to me as the OP is just catching up with changes implemented on the introduction of Astra 2G which was over two years ago?????

    Hello Peedee,

Our Satellite was working fine in September but as mentioned in the original post it just wouldn’t lock on this week.

It would appear to be Oyster specific as Jackson’s state on their website that the Transponder changes affect Oyster dishes from mid October this year.

I have no idea why Oyster and not other dishes (at the moment) as I am no expert but just wanted to update othe Oyster users. I have since bumped into another user on site who encountered the same problem yesterday.

At least we can now watch Satellite again. 😁

Schnauzer, Its hard to see what has changed without an awful lot of digging but I couldn't find transponder frequency 11681 on my Feb 2016 records. I don't know what the other three changes requested were because I don't have an Oyster system to check but the way I understand it is these system tend to use a belt an braces approach to locking on and are not solely dependent on one frequency being present. More than likely multiple alterations have occured over time which have not effected other makes and they have finally caught up with the Oyster?

Your post was certainly useful because it highlight the four transponder frequencies on the European beam which I may also be able to use to better effect on my system. My system was working fine last weekend but without access to my van I cannot remember what frequencies it uses.

Guy on the Oyster stand at the NEC caravan show mentioned this.

Said if we had any problems to give them a call, something about transponder3 being switched off I think.

Seems strange that these Companies that charge well over a thousand pound to supply and fit a system then charge to reprogram the control box, I would think that they would do this as part of their customer care
