    The problem with Opera is that nobody understands the words. It's all sung in "Foreign"

    Looks an interesting programme. I quite like Opera and have been to a few. It looks as if she might have visited La Fenice in Venice. We had a little tour of that theatre on one of our visits to Venice, it had just been reopened after a massive fire.

    Years ago a travelling opera company performed La Boheme at my old comp school, we all enjoyed it. Later, being generally "opera less" OH and I went to see Don Quixote, we had to leave half way as our ear drums couldn't take any more! So we avoided the word opera for many years. However since moving here we've found our local theatre hosts tours by Swansea Opera and the Russian State Opera and we've been to quite a few, last one was Tosca. Must admit I go for some of the lovely arias not the melodramatic stories. We saw Lakme awhile back but Puccini music is a favourite. We've been to his birthplace in Lucca.

    I watched the programme last night but I'm not a total fan, just some of the tunes!

    These sorts of programmes have a dual purpose for me. You learn something about the subject and you get to see some beautiful scenery. I now want to go to Milan! I think I prefer operas that are traditionally set rather than in the modern day at least from a spectacle point of view.

    OH loves Opera, I prefer Ballet, we have been to the local cinema where they have 'beamed'  live performances from the Royal Opera House to selected cinemas, they are few and far between but well worth a visit, the atmosphere is no where near as good as the Opera House but good enough for us as we are quite a distance form London.

    Someone once described opera to me as "pantomime for grown ups"!
