Wing mirror covers

Hello,

Does anyone have experience of wing mirror covers/ protectors? We are considering them for a motorhome, Fiat based. There is quite a variety to choose from.

    I've never had any but, believe me, they won't stand up to the force of white van man meeting you mirror to mirror on a narrow road.

    They might prevent scratches from a hedge, I suppose.

    Are they worth fitting? I don't recall seeing any commercial vehicles with them which might supply the answer.

    We have Millenco mirror protectors and yes they do protect against bumps, bangs and knocks.

    And  they  also  help  hold  together  mirrors  which,  like  mine,  have  suffered  a  whack  from  a  Belgian  lorry,  always  assuming that

    1 }  the  mirror  is  still  functioning

    2 }  you  get  the  correct  fitting  and  there  are  several  so  be  careful  !

    When we bought our Peugeot based Motorhome 18 months ago the dealer (an experienced Motorhome owner) said that if we bought one accessory it should be mirror protectors. The cost of replacing a wing mirror can be up to £400. He recommended Mirror Guard and I believe they have saved our mirrors from serious damage. The white ones look great as well. You can get them for Fiat or Peugeot for £130 the pair incl. delivery.

    We fitted mirror protectors and in this collision the only damage was a slight scratch on the protector. 

    It probably saved a good few pounds in replacement mirror costs and a heck of a lot of inconvenience in finding a replacement mirror while in France.

    Well worth the initial cost.

    I have the Milenco ones as well. Modestly priced and in white. I think they make the van appear wider as the white emphasises the width. I hope that encourages drivers of larger vehicles on narrow roads to give me a bit of room.  

    I think they are a modest cost for the potential benefit.

    We unfortunately met Pierre Le Blanc Van Homme in France, was worried about cost, got a few quotes into the 300 mark, but all sorted for £44 from ebay.  Mirror casing, heated glass and indicator glass.

    I appreciate that replacement mirrors can be obtained on Ebay for a reduced price but if you have an 'accident' while travelling in, say, France there would be some difficulty in getting the new one within a very short space of time - and that could be a problem during the rest of your holiday.

    Having protectors fitted would almost certainly prevent damaging the mirror and save having to source a new one.

    After having been 'clouted' by a passing Motorhome I'm glad we'd had protectors fitted which has saved money and time sourcing a replacement.
