I have read a few recent reviews of this site suggesting that pitches are being allocated on arrival. Does any body know more? If not maybe somebody could report my post and ask for clarification?

It states the following in the site overview drop down ET. So it would seem this site has a different policy to the rest of the group.

A small number of pitches at Bearsted can accommodate outfits that are longer than 9 metres - if you have a larger outfit that is longer than 9 metres please call the site directly to book your stay.

Please note: piches will be allocated by the warden on site.

Site staff will allocate pitches on site to be able to accommodate all visitors

Have reported your post to request clarification.

I am pretty sure we were allocated a pitch the last time we stayed there. Perhaps it's a similar situation to Black Horse Farm where they get a lot of overnighters to and from the ports and save the pitches towards the back of the site for those staying longer and they are a bit further away from the motorway?

We were there recently and were allocated a grass pitch on arrival.  I asked for a HS but was told there were none and we got the last pitch so I guess that's correct.  In the past I am sure we have chosen a pitch if there were a choice but not 100% certain and they were different warders then.

When filling up with water the warder did come out and say we could go on a Serviced HS pitch if we wanted, then said its £extra a night so we politely declined...

Why worry about the CMC Warden allocating a pitch to arrivals.   As a member of the C&CC this is standard practice and I have never been disappointed in any pitch allocated.

While booking in, the C&CC Holiday Site Manager  discusses your needs and will allocate a pitch which is closest to your requirements. You are then escorted to that allocated pitch and if necessary given assistance in positioning your van.

This does stop new arrivals speeding round and round the site looking for "the best pitch" we often see on CMC sites.   -----------Trust the Wardens folks. smile

    cool

Not sure anyone is worrying K. Just wondering why it is different to the other sites. Even at BHF, where we had a ferry pitch, we were free to choose from available ferry pitches.

It is after all general policy that you get to choose from available pitches at the time of arrival. What is general policy with another provider is immaterial.

On C&CC sites owned by the club (ASAIK being a member for decades) you are allowed to go onto any free pitch (unless there is some unusual common sense reason why not which will be explained to you) If this were ever to change I would not continue in the club.

A warden certainly may suggest a pitch (some customers apparently like this) but if you don't like that particular pitch you don't have to pitch there. It's in the rules somewhere.

On some THS you are shown where to pitch and on others you can go where you please.

The warden or steward does not know what kind of pitch you prefer so a brief discussion always comes to an amicable agreement. Be a bit more flexible on THS' as they are not professional wardens and are trying their best to accommodate everyone.

Like Kennine, I have never had a problem but I do (politely) insist upon choosing my own pitch from those available on club sites with a professional warden.

I have forwarded this discussion to our site operations team for clarification and will post once I have their feedback.

Why worry about the CMC Warden allocating a pitch to arrivals. As a member of the C&CC this is standard practice and I have never been disappointed in any pitch allocated.

This is a CC site however Kenine and as such it is not the norm to allocate pitches. I consider my ability to choose the pitch that I wish to use to be an important consideration and might well choose not to use that site as part of a tour. Hence why I asked the question

I have recently queried the pitch allocation by ringing the site and speaking to a warden as we had a booking at Bearsted. The answer from the warden is that they allocate pitches for 1 night stays and RV's. On arrival we were free to choose any vacant pitch as is usual with other sites as our booking was for more than 1 night and we have a caravan. Hope this clarifies the situation with pitch allocation

And we were certainly allocated one at Alderstead Heath recently - but that was because we'd booked an economy pitch and there are very few of them.

Were you 'allocated a pitch' or was it simply that there was only one economy pitch left?

Yes, we were allocated a pitch last time we were there, next to you David.  Very clever of the wardens to realise we both contribute on CT and might like to meet up for real wink

It sounds very sensible to me that some sites will have specific circumstances which will call for a particular management of arrivals and pitching arrangements. Like those ferry pitches on one site mentioned in previous threads, one night transitters may be better confined to choice of pitch near the entrance to minimise disturbance. Also, some sites may only have a couple of pitches long enough for those longer RVs. Good use of warden's discretion, I reckon!

Hi everyone, I've heard back from the sites operations team. As of this year we no longer allocate pitches at Bearsted – only on odd occasions when we need to (for example, when we have limited pitches available and we know that a large outfit is coming in that won’t fit on the majority of those left). I've spoken to the website team and requested the content is amended to this effect and sincerely apologise for the confusion.
