Bunree investment needed

It would be fair to say Bunree is the jewel in the crown for CAMC in Scotland, great location, views etc.

During our 2 stays here this year 7 nights in total the site has always been full which is great.

For such a busy site I can't help thinking that the facilities in toilets which are fully functional and the wardens keep them spotlessly clean but are hardware so to speak is extremely dated they maybe even have an 80s feel.

What I'd be interested to know is when does a site qualify for investment and modernisation surely such a popular site must be on the radar?

Would say quite a few other sites in Scotland have a similar feel to the facilities but aren't as busy as Bunree.

Sandy

I think both Dunnet Bay and North Ledaig AS rank higher in the jewel in the crown stakes. It's personal opinion.

Have you enquired whether a refurbishment is planned? It could be on the cards.

Just to stir things up, currently at West Ayton, Scarborough.

Planning application in for demolition and rebuilding two toilet blocks plus other works. Also looks as though nineteen of the current grass pitches are to be turned into 'all weather pitches with road ways'.

Just look at Yorkshire and recent redevelopments, Knaresborough, Hawes, Grassington. Perhaps it is Scotland's turn now?

Like Tinwheeler prefer a Dunnet Bay or North Ledaig. It is probably 5 years ago since we were on Bunree and facilities were fine for us.

Personally I preferred Bunree before the facilities were added.

Is Bunree another leasehold site like Dunnet where the local council holds the lease and slowed up improvements to the facilities?

and mine, would sooner have clean and older than new and dirty.

Only spend about 15 minutes having a shower anyway

We've been using Bunree since long before they built the Public Lavatories.  At that time the site was used by real caravanners who were able to use their own caravan facilities.

I preferred the layout of the site then, -- IMO adding the public lavatories/showers spoiled the otherwise near-perfect site.

Any investment in improvements might include demolishing the lavatory block entirely and turning that area into hard standing pitches.

    cool

Will you be re-joining the club, then, K, to avoid paying the non-member premium when you visit again?

All the best sites have no toilet blocks. Why pay for a bathroom in your van or motorhome just to hang your wet coats in ?....We have never used the shower block on any site. One can only imagine what some members homes and vans are like when you see the state of the facilities at some locations.

You've never used the facilities but had a good look at them? How unusual, Tj.

I was at Bunree on Tuesday this week and found the facilities adequate, clean and tidy. It was blowing a hooly during the night, mind!

I did say some......not all. Perhaps for clarity  I should have said we use the loos when available ..never the showers.

Good friends of our  are long standing wardens with many years of experience and anecdotes. That will do for me.

We are just back from Lady Margaret. The facility block is not fit for purpose. The showers are worn out and water pressure none existent. Wardens say there is no upgrade  until at least 2019. If this site is not top of the list I hate to think what the state is of those that are. Still charge premium price though.
