Yellowcraig Caravan Club Site, Dirleton, North Berwick

As you would expect from any flagship CC site, the facilities and organisation are of the highest standard. The staff, when we stayed there, were very relaxed and helpful. With 112 pitches to choose from, all arranged in several natural areas, there is a real feeling of privacy and peacefulness. There are only 38 hard standing pitches but the ground is firm and well - draining, the grass kept very short by the many rabbits who are surprisingly entertaining. Tip- if you can’t stand rabbits this isn’t the site for you. We loved them!

The location, a short drive from the picturesque village of Dirleton (there is also a footpath back to the village from the site), complete with wonderful rose- lined cottages ringing a village green, 2 village pubs serving good ales and food, and its own ruined castle.

The site is a stone’s throw from the beautiful beach of Broad Sands, watched over by one of Stevenson’s lighthouses just off shore on Findra Island, and within sight of the iconic Bass Rock, painted white by all the sea birds nesting there.

 A mile or so gentle stroll along the beach eastwards takes us directly into North Berwick harbour. This delightful walk, fringed by the golf links (this is just one of 9 local golf courses including the famous or perhaps infamous Muirfield) and amongst rock pools and rocky outcrops picked over by a variety of sea birds, is a must. North Berwick is a lovely touristy harbour overlooked by North Berwick Law, a 615ft volcanic pyramid with views over to Edinburgh, complete with its own Napoleonic lookout post. It’s a tough climb but quite short and well worth it for the 360 deg views.

The drive to North Berwick is also very easy to do in a motorhome and Dunbar is a few miles east along the coast. John Muir was born here and there is a country park fringing the coast. Well worth a visit.
