Crystal palace site
I am visiting the Crystal palace site for the first time in October. I will be pulling an eight metre van.
I will be travelling from Birmingham and intend to access the site via the M25 somewhere after the Heathrow turn off.
Has anyone else done this journey? I am looking for place/roads to avoid once inside the M25 or a proven route.
All help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Probably the easiest and proven route is to leave the M25 onto the M4 into London and then take the the South Circular (A205) round to Dulwich then follow the directions in the club handbook. The South Circular is virtually all single carriageway (unlike the North which has lots of dual carriageway). And much of is through High Streets and residential areas. It is generally well signposted but bear in mind the South Circular is made up from other routes so there are right and left turns that can catch out the unwary. Having a navigator will be a big advantage. You shouldn't have a problem with the length of your outfit if you're experienced. I followed a massive German twin axle when leaving the site and I couldn't keep up with him! The final approach up Sydenham Hill is bit narrow and watch out for the small site entrance off the roundabout at the top, it's easily missed. Obviously avoid rush hour but it is busy all and every day and although not many miles will probably take at least an hour from the M4.

"And although not many miles will probably take at least an hour from the M4."
And the rest, more like 2 hours during the daytime when the roads are quite it still takes me an hour from Tooting to Orpington where my caravan is stored.
Incidentally. this thread is repeated lower down in this forum section with other route suggestions including my own preferred route using the M3 (about 1 1/2 hours on an average day) Unfortunately, being where it is in South East London, it's not the easiest place to travel to without avoiding the London Traffic. The only positive thing is all our main roads are suitable for Buses & Lorries so the outfit size won't be an issue for the OP.
