I keep a close eye on anything we spend. I happily admit to being a rate tart, not that that takes much work these days. I expect every penny I earned, and himself 😉 to earn for the future and go as far as possible. I won't pay bank charges or interest. Who knows what we'll need for the future? I'd like to choose my care home and have my comforts 😉 if that is required. Meanwhile I'll enjoy trips in the motorhome, to NZ and as nice a life as possible in between 😃

Thanks Helen. He seems much more his old self since he has been on the B12 injections. Most of the awning is dry, just the odd bits to dry tomorrow and I need to re-wash and dry the groundsheet. All good fun

So glad your grand-daughter's op went well bakers2 and will be a success and see and end to the recurring ear infections. Poor little soul - so painful.
When I went back to work many years ago I worked in a Health Centre on the afternoon/evening shift and didn't finish until at least 7pm so Mr H soon decided that he and our then 3 teenage children couldn't wait that long to eat as teenagers wanted to go out
so he started cooking the evening meal and has carried on ever since. 
I do take a turn occasionally but he seems to like doing it. I tend to cook when we are away in the caravan as he does all the towing and then all the 'outside' jobs on site, so fairs fair. He still hovers over me though!2 -
We had no choice. I couldn't help take down the awning and hitch up to move to another site with my fractured hands and we were not allowed to stay here more than 21 nights. We were allowed to leave our caravan here on the seasonal pitch as long as we went away ourselves for the minimum two nights. Booking a hotel for 2 nights was the only solution.

You and my wife are very similar B2, she enjoys the challenge of getting as much interest as possible, and keeps a tight rein on things......as you would expect from an Aberdonian.
We have never used an overdraft, or paid credit card interest, our only borrowing was our mortgage, so she seems to have done a good job.
These days she involves me more so I know what to do if she cannot do it (I hope!), and I now have our main account on a spreadsheet so I can see whether we have a surplus one month, or whether we need to top up the funds.
Surplus is removed to savings as soon as possible, when a top up is required, the date is put in my phone so we do not forget.

We it's been a mixed day of emotions, my dad got his results back from his MRI scan ,the good news is the cancer hasn't spread ,but the bad news is that he needs an operation to remove his lower jaw and reconstruct it ,which he has been told he will be on fluids for the next 9 months, so a lot of looking after mum and dad coming up

Sounds like a woman after my own heart 😂😂. It's simpler these days with Internet banking and phone reminders 😉. But interest rates are so poor I wonder if it's worth it as it doesn't keep up with inflation. 😢😢

We've done about 26,000mls towing in the last ten yrs, which is about 6000 more than we'll have done without the van on the back

Next stop is the Club's Ramslade site, near Torquay. Not so far off the beaten track as here.
Our XC90 had 94671 miles on the clock when we traded it in last January, it was just under 10 years old. Our first retirement trip, in 2007, was to my home place in Norway, we still had the old caravan then, but got our present one the following year. We had it to Norway twice, 2010 and 2014.
Next year we will likely be staying more in UK as our daughter is expecting her first baby in March. Still a long time to go, but they decided to tell us early on as we usually book our ferry well ahead.
We anticipate grandparent duties will limit our trips abroad a bit in the future, though we do have plenty of room in the van for a travel cot!

Just rechecked the figures, ET. Since Dec 2007 we've just over 34,000mls towing and nearly 28,000mls solo, so the difference was as I stated above.

Inflation is a worry, especially as my pension is only partly index linked. Hopefully interest rates will improve a bit soon.
I think we have everything earning at least 2%, some is on 3%, some on 4%, and we have some regular savers, unfortunately ending soon, on 4, 5 and 6%. Rates on new accounts are lower now.

Thanks, we are very pleased, we had been dropping hints for a while!
They have been for some tests and 2 scans so far, and tell us that the babe will be a boy. The room they will have as the nursery is currently pink, so no doubt I will be doing some painting soon!
My job list for after we get home is growing steadily.

Exciting news KjNN! Congratulations to your daughter and her husband. Yes grandparent duties have curtailed our trips somewhat but we wouldn't have it any other way. All the grandchildren have stayed with us in the caravan at some time. Great times.😊

Thanks all, yes we are really looking forward to being grandparents again. Our son and his wife have a boy of 11 and a girl of 7 but they do not live near enough for us to be involved in looking after them, whereas our daughter and husband are only a 10 minute drive away.
This will be the first grandchild for the in-laws, and they stay much closer than us, so there will no doubt be plenty offers of help from them too.
DD will be taking at least 9 months off as she gets quite generous maternity pay for that period, then she may ease back into work by going part time initially.
She is the higher earner, so no prospect of not returning to work.
There is very good provision of childcare near where they live, but it is all very expensive.
