But you are not the house holder of that address which is a stipulation for you to be able to use an additional tv away from the premises, just see how many students have been "caught out" with that one,you definately  need a licence in your name to use the tv in your c/van

I can just imagine my wife's reaction if I expected her to go (walk even?) to Tesco at that time  every evening to save money on the shopping while I spent money on newspapers!  surprised

For a year of newspapers you could buy that TV licence,  and get your wife on  the car insurance so she could drive to Tesco instead.

I thought technology these days meant we can watch "catch up TV" anytime we like?  No need to stick to the often inane stuff that they send out during the day.

Peace has been shattered here.....it's Friday evening and there seems to be a large party going on in a nearby property, complete with pounding "music", and loud voices.

Hopefully it will not go on too late.

Earlier we had screaming children, and an even louder father.  Not on the site, but somewhere on the far side of the hedge.

Should  have gone to Malvern Hills!

We are at home but set off on Monday, heading down through Wales and then to the Somerset, and perhaps Devon, then working our way back through the Cotswolds.

The peace has been shattered here to Kj not with music but rain, it's been hammering on the roof for the last couple of hours, what a din.

Malcolm, if you like peace (your earlier post) then do as I suggested and get some reading books. Charity shops are a good source.

I agree with Kj there is no way I would walk to Tesco (or any shop) at that time to buy cheap food while you are throwing money away on papers, taxis and expensive hotels. I do hope you are going with your wife for a walk, you still need to be active even if you are off sick with sore hands.

Rain seems to be easing, what a difference the weather is this year to 3 years ago at this time. We arrived in St Malo then to 25c  and spent the whole of September in shorts, this year it's been jeans, trainers and rain jacket frown had enough off to the Med cool

It's been there for quite a few years, Kjell, but it's easy to miss the sign for it. Every time we've been there the Car Park has been nearly full.

Have a safe trip down to the south. Where are you heading for this time?

Heading to near Barnstaple first, then Tintagel, then down to the south coast, hoping for better weather.

We had more heavy showers and rumbles of thunder this afternoon, so did not venture far from the van.  Had to re-pack the car as the rubbery boot mat keeps creeping back and eventually stops the  tailgate lock from engaging.  Trying to figure out how to stop it doing this.  Kept happening while we were away earlier in the year too.  With heavy stuff in there it is impossible to pull it forward without unloading almost everything.

Party nearby is still going on,  yell

Poor you Knjell. There is a somewhat delightful housing estate adjacent to the site at Tewkesbury, at least you are only temporary residents! If you haven't been in, do visit the Abbey, stunning, full of history.

I remember visiting Tewkesbury Abbey during the time when I lived in that area. Like you say, it's well worth a visit. You get a nice view of it from the club site and I used to like hearing the bells!

Yes but think of the money I'm saving money in other ways. I didn't buy any fuel last week. I usually fill the Smart Car with fuel twice a week and each time I fill it the cost is around £25. So that's £50 saving last week which is much more saving than what I spent on newspapers. Not being able to drive for six weeks will save £300 in fuel expenses. Yet fuel is only about half the running costs of the car, wear on the engine, tyres etc. all stopped so perhaps a saving nearer £600 over the six weeks. Plus all the savings from not using the Shogun either. So I think my wife should have reasons to be happy!

We've had breakfast of Weetabix with sultanas and milk, two cups of tea and completed ablutions, dressed and ready for my next job of collecting the daily newspaper from reception. The weather looks pleasant too, this morning: blue sky, sunshine with some white cloud. If it stays this way, today could be an opportunity for me to sit outside the awning once the dew has dried off the grass!

Did anyone here watch the programme about motorhoming on Channel 5 last night? It was on at 8 p.m. about touring in Wales. When we last toured Wales, we were a lot luckier with the weather than they were but we visited some of the same places. I recognised Portmeirion. We didn't get to see the vineyard or the slate mines when we were there though.

Anyhow, it's now nearly 9 a.m. so time to make my way over to reception for todays paper. I'll need to wear my wellies though as the grass is still quite wet partly because of all the rain plus dew.

After rain of biblical proportions yesterday and a thunderstorm during the afternoon it is a lovely sunny day here today although a bit chilly.  We are now going to get the caravan ready for our trip to Sandringham tomorrowlaughing

Despite the rain we had a lovely day yesterday.  As part of the Heritage Open Days we visited Milton Hall which used to be owned by the Fitzwilliams until the last Earl died in 1979.  The title died out when we died as he had no children and there were no other descendants.  The house and estate are now owned by the descendants of his step-daughter.  The house is only rarely open to the public.  The Deputy Agent showed us round and gave a lot of history of both the family and the house.  It is a beautiful house and very much a family home.  It was great to have the opportunity to have a look round.

The weather is continuing nice here. I found plenty to read in this mornings paper. There's much more in it than the weekday editions including a magazine. So at £2.10, it seems reasonable value for money.

Lunch is being prepared and cooked at the moment. We're having Breaded Plaice, potatoes and peas.

Last night we had Spaghetti Bolognese for dinner.

Very heavy rain until the early hours, still getting the odd shower but the sun is out at the moment.

Went for a lovely cycle ride the other way yesterday along the coast, very windy in the exposed parts but lovely views. Sea was boiling so no surfers out there.

Have a good trip to Sandringham Millieh

Malcolm, you forget that you are not going to be earning  money so any savings you think you are making do not count. Nothing stopping you going for a walk to fill your time, it's only your hands that are sore, you need to keep active with all that food and tea you drink now you are not at work.

Far better day today ,yesterday PM weather was awful ,had call from Grand daughter as she had missed bus from school,so picked her up and dropped her off at her home, then the heavens really opened with thunder,so did not try to exit car until it eased off ,and when i did,,i stepped out into about three inches of water, which had also flooded the garage,in all the years we have lived here ,it has only been the last 3 or so years that we have had this problemsurprised

New member not fazed by thundersmile

When out with her this morning noticed several paths in the woods had been badly eroded which must have been the result of yesterdays "monsoon" rainfrown

Interesting Millie. Remember my 1940s weekend do? Wentworth Woodhouse, this was the Fitzwilliam's "big house". The last Earl came up for the shooting season and stayed in the residential quarters when I was a student! The latter decendants stripped out most of the treasures, took them to Milton, sold things at auction.

It started out as a beautiful morning, not a cloud in the sky, now though dark storm clouds have gathered.

Been to the local tip, dumped the rubble from the garden, called in at a new local farm shop selling only their own beef, lamb and pork, bought some homemade pork and caramelised red onion burgers and some lamb, everything looked really nice, it's good to know where the meat comes from.

Have a safe trip and a lovely break Millie,

Hope you enjoy the 50th anniversary bash Oneputt,  we have an anniversary to celebrate next month, but only half as long. smile

JVB66 you are lucky your dog isn't fazed by the thunder, our collie copes with fireworks but doesn't like thunder, he hides in the kitchen.

Have a great weekend everyone. smile

Yes TDA I remembered! We were shown some lovely pieces of furniture yesterday that had come from Wentworth Woodhouse.  I understand that they are still trying to work out what to do with the house.  When the last Earl was alive he used to hold wonderful Fetes on May Bank Holiday Monday at Milton to which everyone was invited and he did trips on the lake.  Scouts and Guides also camped in the estate.  All that stopped when he died unfortunately. I presume you have read Black Diamonds?

I spoke too soon about the weather - it is absolutely teaming now with thunder and very dark.

I still get my state pension which is more than what I earn from Pizza Hut plus other money from private pensions. So £12.70 a week for newspapers should not be too difficult to manage. There are no more site fees to pay until November. So only food costs. The loss of earnings from Pizza Hut is only temporary. By middle of October I'll be earning again. That's now less than 5 weeks away.

We had a lovely drive up through Glen Shee this morning, through Braemar and stopped at the Balmoral car park so that I could have a mooch round Crathie church, no one around except some children who helped me buy some postcards, very efficient little helpers with an adult hovering in the background. Nice peaceful visit, looked at the royal pews with their purple cushioned seating. Outside it's still nice to see the heather out, I found some little harebells amongst it.smile

Thanks both, the royals are in residence, the flag is flying,  but the church is over the road from the castle and welcomes visitors. I noticed security nearby so a close eye is being kept. smile
