CAMC wifi
Hello all.
I had a great time at Garlieston a couple of weeks ago. I used the club wifi for the first time, payed my £2.50 day fee. I then tried to log in with a second mobile phone. Not Allowed! Grrrrr.
Browsing and doing emails on smartphones uses very little bandwidth, does not really place greater strain on the system. Why can't we log in with more than one device when we have paid for access?

Fortunately I don't think it is that easy. At least it does not seem so on my iphone. I just tried to use it as a hotspot using my home wifi and it will only use the 4G. I turned this off and the hotspot disappeared.
JR if all users could connect multiple devices the system would not cope on a lot of sites, and that would benefit no one.

Why do you think that browsing and email on a smartphone uses less bandwidth? You are accessing the same sites, downloading the same data to create the web pages and see the emails etc as you would be on a laptop. Web pages might look different but that is just because they are formatted for the smaller screen.

Because, like it or not, you have only paid for access for one device at a time. It's quite clear in the terms. There's nothing to stop you buying a second access code if you want to run two devices at the same time. Otherwise log out on one device and log in with the other.
Personal hotspots only work on the mobi network to the best of my knowledge.

Many sites have a different set of pages for smart(ish) phones as they cannot handle the full HTML codes for the proper pages. These pages ARE smaller and use less data.
What is really annoying is some websites are too clever for their own good and will not allow one to access the real pages from a smartphone at all.

And some sites are so rubbishy that the topics run across the page instead of down on a smartphone which involves endless scrolling.

My phone/chrome browser uses "data saver" to save on data, only downloads enough to look ok on a mobile screen, so the Loads of bandwidth used isn't a valid reason. I can stay on cl's with free broadband for anybody to connect. Of course I know what the terms and conditions say about one device at a time, that's what I'm challenging.

If you want to challenge the ruling, JR, you need to take it up with the club directly.

Earlier in the year, I purchased a year's worth of wifi access for £25. Got access for one session. Subsequent attempts to log on denied. Cannot change password - the system won't allow it.
Left me feeling i have been ripped off.

Why don't you contact the supplying company on the help number. The warden will give you it. They are able to sort these problems out. Although I thought there was a change password function, however have never tried to do it, so no idea what is required. Your best bet is definitely to phone for help.

Resetting password if you have forgotten it
sorry it won't take you to exact page, but just select forgotten password on the one that comes up.
The support line number is also on the page if resetting fails.

Oh! Have I not, by starting this discussion, do they not monitor the forum for issues of concern.
As for "too many people would log on" ! There is no control on numbers, other than the fee. That only controls those of us with vestigial Yorkshire genes. I have tried using wrist weights to stretch my arms, to no avail.

They may monitor threads ?? Certainly seems less moderation since new website last December, who knows if that's good or bad?
If there is monitoring there is rarely a reply. Fb seems to get far more responses. You could try there as well as raise the issue formally with HO. Mind you if what's to be read on here responses are similar to hens teeth 😉.

From the comments on here, the price puts off more than Yorkshire men.😱 If you want to bring the thread to the attention of the CC, feel free to report my post, as you can't do your own. A dialogue box comes up in which you can put the reason for reporting. When I have done it a response follows about 50% of the time.

With the majority of sites in rural/semi rural locations the size of the site and how near the site is to the nearest BT junction box, as with well publicised problems with numerous areas of the UK, it will very much affect how slow site WiFi is with the amount of people who are useing it at any one time

We have given up paying to use the club wifi and have got a mfi instead. Much better as both can use it at same time and we can use it anywhere. Currently in France, great signal doesn't drop out every couple minutes, can top it up as we need. Club wifi is a joke in some places.

Tammygirl tell me more about your mifi.
I have looked but can only find monthly pay ones even chatting to sales people in the shops. Is yours pay as you go? We're not away enough to warrant monthly one. Got some data on phone but not a lot if away. Can you use yours without tweaking in France?

Facebook gives the impression that there is more response due to the fact that virtually all the club posts are simply adverts!
It seems that only Rowena from the club looks in here when she offers her fortnightly apology for the problems on the forum.
Even the Moderators have faded away recently no doubt due to their intense frustration.....other reasons may apply of course but they have certainly faded away!

Thanks SteveL. I'll give that a whirl. Cos I hadn't got a clue I thought best to chat in person. Only interested in selling their own products not assisting an old bird 😂. This should be where shops exceed what online offers but it appears not!
Out of interest you can use them abroad? It appears Tammygirl is in France. I'm thinking about our trips to NZ. I presume you buy here and use there? Told you I know nothing 😂😂

Certainly in France. Even in May we could use our 3 SIM'd MiFi at the same cost as if we were in the UK. I assume, but don't know, that the same applies to other MiFi SIM providers, since the new rules in July. It certainly applies to data on our O2 and EE phones.
No idea about NZ, possibly it might be best to buy an unlocked MiFi and get a pay as you go SIM when you get there, if they do them down under.

Thanks SteveL. Plenty of food for thought. I have nz sim for phone, not thought about it for mifi I'll get daughter to check it out. Might just stick to payg phone and data sim. Get wifi when with her but stay elsewhere. Hoping to do holiday or 2 or more, we usually manage at least one 😉 this time so just thinking ahead.
I use UK phone and put UK sim into an older phone. Since our last visit 12 months ago- I still get daily weather updates for her home town 😲

Bakers2, hi sorry just come back on.
Our mifi is a Huawei one bought on ebay with a 3 data simple card, we got a 12gb card also off eBay. We have used it mostly in France on our earlier 8 week trip and now this one. The card is valid for 12 mths but during that time we can top it up if required.
I would think in NZ you should be able to buy a data card there. OH says if you do go ahead with one (mifi) make sure it's unlocked so you can use it on any network.

Thanks Tammygirl. I'm looking into mifi is yours 3 or 4 g? I suppose logic says I should go 4g? Yes I'd want it unlocked.
When I was looking they said about 12 months. I thought it was a contract 😂 shows how well it was explained! You have to use within 12 months do you?
