Please could any of the experts/locals help me with traveling the M5 (from Birmingham) to Devon on Saturday - main holidays should be over?

I am due to meet up with my daughter for a bit of camping - and we have either North Devon or North Wales (obviously not the M5 for that).  Since she is in Devon I think I will be under pressure to go that way - arguably she needs a holiday more than I do!  So I was thinking of getting to Chapel Lane or thereabouts on Friday and then start the rest of the journey from there.  We are hoping for a good weather forecast too!

I haven't travelled on the M5 since July, Pippa, so can't really give you an update.

A Saturday wouldn't be my day of choice, though. There are still a lot of holidaymakers about who may well be leaving and travelling eastwards this weekend. It's also the weekend when when the older people start coming this way.

    Try this nearer the time.

Road works M5 jct 1-2 over Oldbury viaduct

We did the toll road then M42 onto the M5 then we stopped at Tewkesbury abbey site didn't hit any more roadworks then all the way down to Cornwall

    This was 2 weeks ago

Thank you - perhaps I should push on to Tewkesbury on Friday then - trouble is I am not sure when I can leave home yet!

Better still I should push for a meeting in North Wales!  smile

Thanks DD I am sure that's good advice however  I am too old to tow that far in one hit - I can do it with the car just about but not tugging.  wink  Mind you I still don't know where I am headed exactly!

Wherever you end up enjoy your time with your daughter.  Are you going to Stratford for the Companions AGM later this month? Its ages since we met up.

Thanks Meg - we both need to chill!  I haven't thought of Stratford - not a paid up member at the moment!  wink  My life is a bit one day at a time just now.  With a bit of luck one day I will be able to do some planning!
