Club site wardens
We have just returned from 9 nights at the clubs Sidmouth site. Since returning to caravaning early last year we have only used club sites but on each trip and of the many sites we have now visited the wardens have been great, and during our stay's they seem to be constantly on the go.
On our Sidmouth trip there were 4 wardens on duty most of the time working very hard, the site and facilities were spotless and the pitches and grounds very neat and tidy. I know its a job and they get paid for it but its not something I would want to do
So from myself and my Wife, THANK YOU to you all for your hard work and making our stays such a nice experience.

A good post. I have often posted that the wardens are one of the best things about the club. They live on site as opposed to coming in at 8am for a shift and then leave (and leaving the responsibility for anything to someone else), it is 'their' site and they take a pride in making sure everything runs very well indeed. Yes like you I have found they are always friendly and of course they are motorhomers and caravaners themselves so are quite knowledgeable if you need help.
I know some on here jump on the bandwaggon and decry the warden model (why have them clean toilets and do everything...) but it works very well indeed as you say.
a big thank you to all of them.

I have always appreciated the staff on site. It saddens me to read complaints in site reviews because a warden has been doing his job. We have all read them.
He/She told me not to exercise my dog on site.
Insists on cutting the grass every time caravans depart
Told me to keep the noise down.
Told me not to park on the grass.
Would not let us put up a gazebo alongside my awning
told my son off ............
Cleans the toilets at 10.30
Anybody recall other complaints?

More hearty thanks from us too. We don't use club sites as much these days as we did but the wardens do a great job.
We wondered about becoming wardens ourselves at one point but had a really good think and decided against it. As JVB says not for the fainthearted and you're never off duty, all for the minimum/living wage, for hours rostered rather than hours on call 😉
So thank you from us too.

They are great and I thank them, too.
We had personal experience on two occasions of wardens going beyond the call of their normal duties when we suffered illness and an accident. Yes, they are appreciated.

Always good to read positive comments about site staff. I hope you have also put this is a review of the site? The reason I say this is that I am pretty sure that Regional Managers are more likely to read the reviews of sites in their region than perhaps happen upon a comment on here. Also perhaps fill out the e-mail surveys being sent out after each site visit, seems a shame that only 30% of people are doing so.

uses those grass blowers at all hours
comes past my van on that tractor thing at 9am
Don't sell newspapers
music on in the shower block
move/unplugs my EHU cable when mowing the grass

I have to agree with the OP. CMC sites are kept to a high standard by the on-site staff. Especially the Toilet Blocks.
If there was to be any one valid criticism, it is the fact that blatant disregard by campers of the CMC onsite rules are not dealt with by the Wardens promptly.
No point in waiting until somebody complains to the warden. The wardens don't spend all day in the office and should be aware of any flouting of the CMC rules on their allocated site.

we can all moan but this thread is one of the best I have read. when I have asked for help I have always found the wardens to be very obliging. I have even asked for a borrow of a tape measure within seconds I was lent one . they do a fantastic job. when I have worked at places like Gatwick airport seeing all the people going on holiday it was not very nice. I was never in a good mood always wishing I was going on holiday with them. there are our wardens all day seeing us relaxed with a beer\cup of tea relaxing in the sun . as they go there work. thank you wardens for doing a fantastic job.

One example I witnessed of going the extra mile by the wardens was on Friday. They had 55 outfits arriving for the BH weekend. all the pitches were taken quickly only leaving grass ones. A twin axle with no mover fitted was reversed on to the last reasonably flat grass pitch on a corner of the site road but it left the a frame quite close to the road. the wardens picked up on this and moved the caravan with their tractor to another more suitable pitch. (it would have been almost impossible to use the owners car due to the available space to turn) Fetched some log cuttings so the corner steadies could be lowered and provided an additional EHU lead to reach the nearest bollard.

And that demonstrates wardens using common sense, managing the site well, and making the vanners happy.

Do not mention the site!!!as the wardens will be in trouble from Grimstead ,as they have instructions to not use the site equipment for towing/moving members outfits, and I also understand have had the front tow hooks taken off the site tractors, but good for them for doing what most would do despite grimsteads efforts to curtail them

In a lifetime of caravanning I have only ever come across great wardens.
Back in the 70's the wardens were all ex army types, but always seemed friendly to me as a child.
We have some great wardens locally ... Muriel at Edinburgh ... has even been seen scrubbing the railings outside the site. Andy and Sam at Balbirnie (and their predecessors Lisa And Jim) who have done so much to improve the site.

I was talking to a married couple working as wardens /site managers on a privately owned site. They lived all year round, with their children who were at the local school, in a comfortable house on site, not having to live in their own caravan. They ran all the business side of things, including the on site shop, seven days a week, for a six month season. They had their paid time off when the season ended. Separate part time cleaners and gardners were employed for that work. I asked if they had ever, or would ever, work as Club site wardens. They laughed and said No, certainly not.

When I saw this thread in praise of wardens I did actually wonder how long it would be till someone (probably someone who doesn't go to club sites that often, or isn't generally positive about the club) would be forced to post something negative about them or indeed the way the club runs it warden system.
While people are entitled to post any opinion they wish of course, why someone feels the need to post such negative comments on a thread praising wardens is beyond me

Silly me, I forgot. The Club system is the perfect way.
The living conditions for wardens are excellent. Their pay and terms of employment cannot be bettered. Their security of employment is first class. No other employers do better for their members of staff.
Do you really believe all that?

I never have said the club system is the perfect way and I have no idea about the pay and conditions of wardens, but (as predicted) on a thread about praising wardens and the good job that they do, rather than join in or post nothing at all why did you feel the need to post such off topic comments about their pay and conditions?
You might be right about their horrendous working duties, but they seem happy enough and do a good job according to the posts here, but is this thread the place to post on that? btw do you have any proof that they are treated badly or just your conservation? hardly proof is it?
You could have posted that you didn't agree with OP, but as I assume you couldn't for whatever reason you choose to have a go at the club anyway. sad really
have a nice day

I suspect very few sites offer the opportunity of permanent accommodation so I imagine such jobs are few and far between. It also has the disadvantage of being tied accommodation so if at any stage they or their employees decide to end the contract they are out on their ear. I think the job of a CMC warden is very different in that they are in the main seasonal. Even where a site is open all year there will be permanent accommodation for those full time wardens but fill in wardens will use their own accommodation. No one is forced to be a site warden and people often use the job as a means of either continuing to work after retirement or if they retire early from previous work to fill in until they get their full pension. Some will enjoy the flexibility the job offers in that they can work most of the year on a site and them travel to hotter climes for the winter. I think most people who become Club wardens are more than aware of what the job entails as most of them are already members so are quite familiar what would be expected.
