Another BIG thank you to CTers
This may not exactly be Caravan and Motorhome chat but this is where I heard enough times to sink into my noddle - "At least pay a deposit on your Credit Card and if something goes wrong they can deal with it" so it might help someone making the big purchase on a Caravan or Motor Home to "do it right".
Well I paid a deposit fair sized on an air source heat pump system for my house. Long story short they didn't deliver on due date - nor did they tell me anything was up with the survey. Apparently the surveyor called to talk to me - no he didn't - no missed calls on either phone. So I informed them they were in Breach of Contract and I would have the deposit back thank you. That was agreed but never happened when I eventually got hold of management - installation was due 13th July. Numerous abortive calls and an appointment to stay in for the MD to call me - he didn't! I spoke to Tesco today and my refund is on its way! The nice man at Tesco Bank couldn't get hold of them and I was surfing trying to find another phone number for them that I had used - guess what website has changed and another one has appeared asking people if they have been mis-sold by this company - solar and air source. Thank goodness I didn't re-arrange the installation date! All rather nerve wracking!
But thank you to everyone who made the point about using credit cards - I very nearly didn't as I thought I had checked everything out thoroughly!
Green Energy Power Solutions based in Worksop - are in my experience ones to avoid. They told Tesco my money would be back by 2 October - they have had it since 26th June so Tesco said not good enough - and they are apparently going to call me before close of business Wednesday to reach a better date! I can't say I am holding my breath. But at least Tesco have been told it will happen! Perhaps I should carry on the warning to more social media.

Thanks again - I learnt the Breach of Contract bit from Jimmy Young a few moons ago! I got the engine changed on a new car before I had even taken delivery and got it delivered on time too. Might have taught the Salesman something as he thought he had bewitched my young daughter and myself! My father I remember was quite shocked and thought I should have missed my Easter holiday! Why? He was a successful business man too - don't people just surprise you sometimes! And I have never had to resort to anything like the hassle with these guys!

It may also help for you to tell Tesco that you will be calling in the assistance of 'the Times, the Guardian' or some other newspaper you prefer to mention to get that refund with their assistance, permitting them to publish all the details.
Good luck

Off thread (ish) but I recently booked a Neilson skiing holiday for 4 people through a third party (Iglu Ski) as it was oddly cheaper! - cost over £4500 and £200 of deposit went on credit card and I paid the £3 charge for a bit of piece of mind! Good luck.

Agree with DD here Pippah, we have on 2 occasions gone back to a CC company and had a full refund of the money we had put on the card when things had gone wrong. In both cases the money was refunded straight away by the CC (once they had checked the facts) its then down to them to recover from the company who had been paid.
Good luck with this and hope you get your money back soon.

Surprise surprise I got no call - one 4 ring one that hung up as I answered - and when I redialed I was told it was an unobtainable one! So back on the tin music and my call being important. Tesco tell me that they can't act until 120 days has passed but they did ring the company and guess what I am waiting for a call again to give me a date for the refund! It seems since the refund has been promised I have to wait - which is annoying but not crucial. I don't think I have the energy to read through all the Ts and Cs of my new card which of course I should do. I read the Jointly and Severally bit - and it felt as though I am part of the Jointly bit for just now.
Thanks Tammygirl and DD and all.
