Hi my Machzone sovereign windscreen has cracked following a stone chip last week,

As machzone are no longer made I have been advised by my windscreen insurance that they are no longer available and can only be made in batches of 10-20 at a cost of about £4000 each.

Has any body any experience as to what happens in this case, the A class is one of the last ones made and has done under 20k miles and cost over 20k a few weeks ago.

Any advise would be helpful.

Stuart.

The trouble with insurance companies, is that they try to use certain suppliers for their glass & if they can't supply then the insurance is reluctant to look elsewhere. Many years ago my brother had a Mitsubishi GTO which at the time, were all 'grey' imports. He had a door window smashed,  insurance company said to use XYZ Glass to supply, who went to Mitsubishi who said 6 weeks from Japan. The Interweb was in its infancy but a brief search found a supplier who had one delivered to my brother the next week.

I'm sure there must be a screen already out there. It just needs finding via the web & telling the ins co where it is.

Stone chips can usually be repaired if they are not less than 2" from the edge of the screen. The nearer the edge, the greater the risk of the screen cracking. Don't know about cracks.

You could try PSV Glass as they do windscreens & repairs for a wide range of vehicles and may have a windscreen that matches your van. Glenns Motorhomes of Nottingham have a link to the Machzone past so someone there may be able to help. I doubt Machzone used windscreens specifically made for them.

If the risk was accepted by the insurance company, it's up to them to fulfill the policy and meet the claim.

I suspect there may be some small print saying if parts are not longer available blah blah blah...

It could of course be written off.

Yes, although they probably wouldn't need to take that nuclear option as, very often, policies contain an option for the insurer simply to pay cash for the amount of the loss or damage.
