Cycling direct from a club site
Can anyone suggest club sites which have direct cycling access from site, either off road or on minor roads. We have mountain bikes but don't want anything too hilly. The reason it has to have direct access from site is because we also take our dog and don't wish to leave her too long on her own. We already have Broadway booked for October, is this a good choice to take our bikes?

I understand what you are asking for NDB! Some Club Sites actually provide leaflets for a decent cycle ride. If you pick a Club Site, click on "view details" and when that page comes up, if you look down in the bottom right hand of the page, you will see a list of guides you can click and open and download, including map of site, leaflet about the site, and in some instances, a cycle guide!
We have cycled from Ferry Meadows, Old Hartley, Yellowcraig, Berwick, Marazion, Godrevy, Exeter Racecourse, River Breamish, Clumber Park, Minnows, etc.... and lots more. Some routes may suit, depends what you are looking for, and time out you fancy.
There are some fabulously located CLs for cycling from as well. Don't know the Broadway site, so cannot help there, but hope other information is useful.

I'd add the racecourse at Great Yarmouth. Easy walking from site to the dunes and then beach for great dog walking in either direction. Same for cycling the prom is very flat. Just have to go up the hump back bridge, old railway? before you get to completely flat.
Ferry Meadows out into the country park and loads of cycle routes and traffic free into the town too. Lots of off road cycle routes through housing too.
Clumber park but you need to follow storage instructions there!
Edinburgh was flat along the Forth and elsewhere, names escape me.
Southport loads along through to Formby all traffic free.
Graffham Water.
Not been but Poolspark is beside a country park, similar to the other club at Trevesal.

I would think Clumber Park would foot the bill very well. If you leave by one of the side gates you are straight onto tracks and only need to cross the odd road. Some are even traffic free. Perhaps the cycle leaflets don't mention it, as it has always looked a bit hazardous to me, more for the person on the bike than the dog.
Edit just noticed you put October. That seasonal canine disease often strikes at Clumber about then and it is advised dogs are kept on a lead.

I think you might be misunderstanding slightly JVB, (or maybe I am!). I read the post as they have a dog, which they take touring with them, but are looking for cycle rides they can do from site, while dog has a rest in caravan?
This is what we do with our dogs. We tried taking them with us, but despite being fit, they are not built for running long distances alongside bikes. Some dogs love it, and are well up to it, but our Labs have dodgy joints so we don't force a lot of endurance type exercise on them. We give them a good walk, after which they are usually tired out, so we can leave them to sleep quietly. (Lots of rooflights open, windows locked open, parked in shade, never left if it is too warm in MH, big bowl of water on floor, and we know they don't bark, just in case anyone feels the need to comment, 'cos they have been monitored by friends on CLs and have never budged! We usually have to wake them up when we get back.)

NPD, Don't limit yourself to Club sites. All the converted, ex railway, off road cycling trails which would suit you very well here in Devon and Cornwall - the Tarka Trail, the Granite Way, the Plym Valley trail and the CamelTrail - are lined with campsites great and small - one is Affiliated to the Club, but most are simply independents. Come south west !

There is actually a list of Sites on website, but finding it is not easy! Click on UK Holidays, click on Club Sites, click on Be Inspired, click on Best Sites for...., click on Cycling! Five clicks in total, not bad for this website. Don't try "search" it brings up nothing of any real use, I got obscure sites somewhere abroad!
Eurotravellers advice is good, CLs are best for cycling, combined with a good OS map!

The Sustrans cycle routes will be on all the site details info. You need to click on this to see the routes.
My suggestion for direct cycling would be Black Knowl, all off road through the New Forest. We used a dog trailer there, miles of lovely cycling, dogs travelling in style!

Just noticed the OP asked about cycling around Broadway. It wouldn't be my choice although there are some quieter spots along some local lanes the traffic is quite busy on the main roads. No doubt there will be some Sustrans routes to use?

Poolsbrook Country Park might be worth a look as it's on one of the main national cycle routes. If you are a member of the C&CC their Milton Keynes site gives you access to many, many kilometres of off road cycle routes.

Re cycling from Broadway, there are some minor roads, although being in the Cotswolds it can be hilly in places.
Some good suggestions for sites with good access to cycle routes have been suggested. Our dog likes to trot alongside us when we use the bikes so always use the traffic free cycle tracks. The peak district has some excellent trials, mostly old railway lines so no hills
We also like Stamford site, direct access to the cycling routes in the woods from the site.

One site where we use bikes is Meathop Fell, near Grange over Sands. It's a quiet road from the site into Grange, and once there, you can access the promenade, which runs for a fair length. We've actually carried on past there and gone onto Cartmel. There are a few hilly bits, but not too bad.
We've also stayed at Carsington Water, Ashbourne. From the site it is easy to get to Carsington Water, and that is quite good to cycle round, although quite up and down in places!
Norfolk Broads site is quite good for cycling on local quiet lanes, and there are some cycle routes there if memory serves me right. We cycled a lot there, the only drawback can be a headwind in that area!

Friends of ours use Meathop Fell and Carsington for cycling as well. Not used them ourselves, but friends love them.

Stamford, cycle directly onto forest roads and tracks. Slinfold, straight onto an old railway line, that is a link between the North & South Downs. Clumber has lots of forest drives suitable for cycling. From Lydford it is a very short way onto the Granite Way cycleway to Oakhampton. From Warwick Raceourse it's easy to get onto the towpath of the canal to Hatton Locks. Wirral Country Park has the Wirral Circular cycleway that passes it.

Many thanks to all member who have replied to my post, particularly "takethedogalong", you have understood my requirements spot on!
We live in Lincolnshire but we are compiling a list for future hols as we will be travelling more next year when hubby retires.

You are very welcome. If you fancy it, I would definitely have a look at some CLs. There are some fantastic ones located right alongside very good cycle ways, and canal paths. Brilliant for dog walking as well of course! Enjoy.
