Coniston route choice
hi there, heading to coniston shortly and will be travelling from the north so M6 from Carlisle and was wondering is it best to go via Ambleside to coniston which is my more direct route or travel further south and come in via torver
how does the Ambleside to coniston road compare to the Ambleside to hawkshead road
thanks

Whenever possible approach from the South (Newby Bridge) on the A590. Follow signposts for the A590, Barrow. In 5 miles at Greenodd turn right onto the A5092 (signposted Workington). Within 2 miles fork right onto A5084. In about 6 miles in Torver turn right onto the A593. The site is on the right within 1.25 miles (100 yards past the brown and white tourism sign). Please note that the final approach from North or South is narrow in places. Arrivals after 20:00 please remain on reception area beyond office.

Turn off M6 at Junct 36 onto A590 signed Kendal, slip road after 3 mls A590 Barrow. After 20 mls at Greenodd roundabout take A5092 Coniston and then after about 3 mls fork right onto the A5084 Coniston. Follow all the way to Torver, turn right onto A593 and site is on the right after a couple of miles. Care is needed in a couple of places along this route but easily doable.

Do it blindfold!! My way home.

I do wonder how certain members find certain sites. Just follow the route in the Site Directory, or copy out that given on the web site. Other routes may look quicker and/or shorter but they are often not suitable when towing, although more comfortably done in a M/H.

I have just joined the club so not fully conversent with all of the options available yet so thought I would seak some advice which is always a good way to learn coming in from the north did appear to be quicker and is certainly shorter but seems is not the best option

houghta, it's virtually always best to follow the direction give by the club for the site. I would not recommend using sat nav when you come off main roads as they normally select the shortest/fastest route to the post code one enters and that route is not always caravan friendly. Hope this helps.

No problem, brue. The routes through the Lakes directly to Coniston are fine(ish) for M/Hs but unless one comes down for the north by the Cumbrian coast route or the M6/A590 they are not great for caravans.
