Hi

I have just bought a brand new MH now I may be wrong so need advice here. I never got any instruction manual, which I have requested but as yet have not been provided. Is this normal that with a new MH  this is not provided and if so can they be obtained ?

Also the warranty on the van is now in question as I did not get any paper work with the van, was told that as soon as my V5 came in, I had to send a copy of this back to the dealer who would then sort this out.

Breakdown cover again when I was buying the van was told two years along with warranty and again getting nowhere.

As I say am new to this and only have experience of buying a new car and all of this essential paper work is provide on handover.

So before I loss my cool with the garage in Perth can you advise me

Just like buying a car you should have all the relevant paperwork on completion of the sale. You will need to contact the dealer or garage again. Normally you would go through the paperwork to check everything is to your satisfaction before completing the sale. Good luck, hope it gets sorted.

Not quite like buying a car as there should be paperwork/instructions for fridge, oven, and many other common items such as heating etc

No, but you would get a manual with the car. With a motorhome you get the car type manual plus the motorhome contents instructions manual, all the warranties etc It should all be there on handover.

Sorry the web site is so slow I can't edit properly!

You don't say what type of MH but when we bought our coachbuilt we had a manual for the base vehicle and one for the Motorhome. Also warranty certificates and service booklets. As Easy says, there should also be separate leaflets for all the fitted appliances plus alarm etc. Our manual repeats some of the data in the leaflets but is convenient that way and I have had to consult the book quite a lot.

Typically you will have to read up on the heating system and control panel and almost anything that is electronic. You might even have to check how to set the clock on the microwave.

The OP says it's a Rimor at the end of the post. I can't really understand why someone would come away with no paperwork?

OP, our caravan came with several very thick manuals, I suggest you demand your dealer supplies all the required manuals.

Was there no hand over indoctrination given?

If not, that was extremely poor service......not to be tolerated.

You should get all the manuals on collection. Rimor is an Italian brand that has just started exporting to the UK again so maybe there is some delay in the manufacturer providing the manuals.

For ancillary product such as fridges and cookers, you should be able to get the manuals on line from the manufacturer although that does not give the dealer a get out for not providing the manuals.

I presume your van is on a Renault base and if so, I can't help you with the warranty issue except to say you might get at least three warranties on a new van. One is for the base vehicle and provided by the base manufacturer [Renault?], two is the water ingress warranty and three is the habitation warranty. Two and three are sometimes combined and will be provided by Rimor. Each piece of ancillary equipment, such as fridge, will also come with its own warranty. Any warranty issues should first be directed to your dealer but don't be surprised if they try and fob you off. It'll probably be quicker to sort out any Renault issues with a Renault dealer.

Try and keep a good relationship with the dealer without being gullible. You will almost certainly have warranty claims [very, very few motorhomers do not].

Motorhome manufacturing is still a cottage industry and cannot be compared to the car industry.

I'd also recommend joining a couple of dedicated motorhome forums. We all need help from time to time. I don't know if there is a Rimor Owners Club.

According to a post by Readytogo on another thread, there is a Rimor Owners Club on Facebook. Thinking about, whenever I have a question about my Hymer and the dealer doesn't know the answer, I post a flattering and polite question on Hymer's Facebook site and always get an answer.
