Beach site
We are looking for a nice beach site ( club or otherwise) sort of south west area where you can walk to the beach, local pub, local shops and a reasonable bus route to adventure further. I have been trawling through many sites and can't seem to find what we are looking for ( if it exists). Some sites are a couple of miles from the beach, some are remote with not much of a bus route, and some have rubbish reviews. Any opinions or recommendations appreciated. We are heading to Bath midweek for the motorhome show so an hourish maximum 2 from there would be good, but open to ideas as we can move up north over a day or so.

Had you thought of Minehead which meets some of your requirements. It's about 68 miles from Bath but you do have to use the A39 which will slow things down a bit. Town within reasonably easy walking distance. Bus stop even nearer as is a parade of shops with a Co-Op supermarket and Fish and Chips next door to that!!!

I had looked at that David not sure if that is one where a reviewer said the bus route is a distance away will check.....I am swaying towards Dorset as we love Weymouth will look again, not sure how walkable the beaches are, our pooch is older now and gets tired a little more than she did.

Another vote for Slapton! Both the club sites are within easy walking distance of the coast, lovely villages, pubs and walks. Excellent bus service in either direction. The nature reserve at Slapton is free entry, beautiful waterside views and plenty of wildlife spotting, dogs on leads allowed too. I prefer Slapton village but would go to either site for access to the sea. Some don't like the narrow local roads but it's worth it!

There's also the C&CC site at Dartmouth (Stoke Fleming) which whilst not within walking distance of a beach has a bus stop outside to take you to Dartmouth or elsewhere. Bear in mind the comment about Blackpool Sands above - dogs are banned all year round but you are OK at Slapton. Another of our favourite haunts is Beesands although the drive down the single track road to get there is a bit hairy!

Thanks everyone, I will be researching all of the above, that's what I like about this forum, you can aks a question and get some really useful information and titbits that help with decisions.

I don't know how they worked that out? We were there last year and there was a half hourly bus service (number 28) within a 5/10 walk of the site entrance. This bus takes you to Dunster(and beyond) which is an interesting village.

Luckily most of the beaches mentioned like Minehead, the Dorset and Devon beaches (except Blackpool sands) have limited restrictions with plenty of dog walking available. Slapton/Torcross is probably the best all round area with no restrictions.

The other problem with Minehead is that like Weston Super Mare, the Sea is brown not blue! By Minehead it is getting a little less muddy, but still no where near as blue as the Southern coast.
There are a number of very good CL's between Weymouth & Exmouth. We never consider club sites due to very high costs, but many CL's now provide good facilities at half the cost of club sites.

Most of the beaches along that bit of coast are pretty naff. Uninviting water and boulders rather than pebbles. The roads aren't exactly caravan/MH friendly either.

Saw the south west ref so was going to suggest that you look at Pentewan Sands in Cornwall but now having seen that you are going to Bath may be a bit too far!
It is right on the beach and the bus stops at the gate but not sure about dogs if that is an issue.
There is a Wilts Centre Rally there in Sept.
