site not full
is it just me or are the sites not as full this year were we are staying on a site were there is lots of pitches vacant I think people with children are now looking at haven and park holiday as there prices are more or less the same as club fees its a shame to see less and less children on site as we will need future generation to carry on

You can also get all singing all dancing commercial sites within the same price and sometimes a bit cheaper

I very much doubt that in August.

We stayed at Castleton last weekend
£28.10 per night 2 adults
Pentewan Sands in Cornwall indoor pool, softplay area, video arcade, supermarket, chippy, 3 bars, kids entertainment, play area on the beach and beach front location
£38 per night 2 adults and 2 children under 14
If we'd got a family it would make sense to go to Pentewan
There are cheaper sites out there
Just checked the Castleton site 2 adults 2 children in August 37.50 per night OUCH

How can you compare a site in the Peak District with one in Cornwall?
Pentewan Sands is £38, but Treamble Valley is only £30 and that's a darn sight closer!
Or you could go to Haven Perran Sands which I believe from another thread is a mere £80 a night ( can't vouch for that, haven't checked it myself.)

Trewethet 34.20 per night
I quoted these sites as they're the ones we've experienced
But the site mentioned £80 per night that crazy money and they deserve to be empty
I thought it was a fair comparison
Peak District is a very touristy place to be as is Cornwall
Ok totally different type of holiday but both extremely popular
Just trying to give an insight as to why the OP isn't seeing many families on club sites

But that's not cheaper - at best it's similar but, as Moulesy pointed out, it's not a straight comparison.
Try taking a dog to Pentewan!

When we were there last weekend it said full but as it's only just reopened they had infact only opened half the site I think all the non awning pitches were closed hopefully it's now fully open

Yep no dogs allowed until November when they close
But I think the op referred to families with children if they had mentioned dogs I'd have referred to little Winnick just up the road that's cheaper at 25 quid per night
But as they say if someone's willing to pay 20 30 40 quid per night even the 80 quid per night then they will charge it

It's not really a fair comparison, P&K, as the sites are in totally different areas of the country and, by that alone, will attract different types of customers.
I think, too, you might have overlooked Pentewan's booking fee and compulsory cancellation insurance.
I'm not knocking anyone's choice here and variety is what we need but I don't think you can make a dimple comparison because it's not that simple.

Are you sure it's about cost?
We wanted to go away for a fortnight in September in the South of England. It is quite possible to do this IF you don want to include weekends.
Each year we are finding it difficult to book with club sites for a holiday.

Tbh it may not be about the cost it may be about location or facilities
I have spoken to a few members who have joined both clubs to gain more choice maybe it's that I don't know
Roll on two weeks
Moreton in marsh
Cirencester
Baltic wharf
Pentewan Sands
Then Tewkesbury abbey can't wait
Happy travels everyone

I think fees have a lot to do with it. We've seen them creeping up each year, so much so we use more CL's then ever before. "the other club" are now doing midweek deals to attract customers back plus an age concession.

October half term 23-27th. Blackpool south site showing full, so we check out Southport CAMC site. Cost for 2 adults, 2 kids & 1 dog on serviced pitch £34.90 per night or £244.30 for 1 week.
Decided to check Haven Marton Mere. Same time, same fully serviced pitch, cost £31.63 per night or £221.41 for 1 week. Cost includes, full use of swimming pool, free daytime & evening entertainment for the kids, onsite restaurant, bar & convenience store.
And one of the reasons given for the recent rebrand of the Caravan Club was " to attract younger members "
Someone at HQ needs to get a grip !

If I had children to entertain the last place I would take them is a "boring"CAMC site and all those facilities you mention are what, as a member of the older generation, would send me running for the hills. However if the club really is intent on trying to attract families perhaps it needs to try out the swimmings pools etc on a couple of sites in touristy areas to see how it goes.
We tend to use CLs anyway as we prefer the five vans only but also on cost grounds.
Like a lot of my generation we stay home in August as everywhere is so crowded so given that the main membership of the club are the older generation I think that is why the sites are not so full as you might expect in August.

Until the Op names the site concerned, I am very suspicouse of it? As we are on a site that is near capacity, and you only have to look a late availabilty to check how full most sites are, remember it is only sites that have spaces that are shown, also how many "free pitches"there are compared to the size and type of site

You have hit the nail on the head, children will find them utterly boring places, they are not child friendly funny thing they are dog friendly, has a family we never went CC sites allways commercial or CL.
