What's in a name ?.  The CMC is a good name and reflects the upsurge in Motorhoming. The CMC quite rightly wants to attract that growing market.   .If the current trend continues Motorhomes will soon outnumber Caravans in the UK.

Electricity was included in pitch prices before then PD. I had a year out of caravanning for 1993 following cancer surgery and a month of radiotherapy etc.

The following year I replaced the caravan and the one I bought had no mains. I fitted mains during 1995 as I was paying for it in pitch fee.

The depth of feeling is obvious. It was a stupid, expensive ego trip and those responsible  need to accept  the consequences. This will not go way. The management seems to be run on the RSPCA model.

It's happened we have to accept it BUT it doesn't mean the members and possibly the staff are happy. It's something that members will harbour thoughts about for years to come so it may well show in elections etc but as with anything within the club, perhaps not the name change 😉, take years to actually be felt 😉😉

Just received replacement Greeflag members cards as the ones I received last month had the Caravan Club logo on and new ones have Caravan And Motorhome Club logo. I also received new policy booklet and other literature with new logo. More waste of money associated with name change.

Might be worth posting this on the waste of money thread, where a member of staff has commented 😉

I think there are a lot of people wearing rose coloured spectacles out there. I suspect the Club management have actually seen the writing on the wall. Motorhomes will be the future of the Club, maybe not next year or five years time but beyond that they will be. We have already seen there will be no petrol or diesel cars from 2040 (only 23 years ahead) so whilst you can't rule out that there won't be cars capable of towing caravans it does look more problematic from a towing point of view. There will always be a need in the immediate future for vans the size of Fiat/Peugeot/Renault/Ford. However they are powered they will surely be capable of being converted to motorhomes? Now imagine the situation that we remained just the Caravan Club but in ten years time we saw membership of caravan owners falling drastically which put the site network in jeopardy because of falling income. At this point the Club decides to change its name to the Caravan and Motorhome Club you could imagine the outrage that the Club should have left it so long and should have changed its name years ago!!! It's always difficult to get changes right on the curve, it's usually behind or ahead so it could be that the CMC is, surprisingly, ahead of that curve. As to cost we have no idea what that is yet and lots of people are making assumptions, when we find out we will either be surprised or disappointed or both. It is done now so we have to move on and stop wasting our energy moaning about it.

CAMC is like a brand - it's a trading name. Brands, like The Club, have loyal users - they keep your business alive, but you also need new members to continue. The bottom line is as per Club paperwork :

The Caravan and Motorhome Club is a trading name of The Caravan Club Ltd,

A thought struck me while having dinner tonight. Perhaps the reason for the change of name is that following the fiasco of COTY the Chairman has swapped his caravan for Motorhome......

I think we should campaign for a return to the original name it is more generic and inclusive for all types of caravan outfits.  At least a consultation with the members who own the club would be polite.

Within five years we will see another name change, perhaps done more economically this time, to The Electric Motorhome Club.  EMC has a nice "ring" to it . . . . . .

I never accepted the new name anyway. I joined the Caravan Club and will never refer to it as anything else!

I think we should just get on with booking our holidays ,it's only a name for gods sake . There are lots of businesses that have changed their name and we still deal with them

I joined Midland bank years ago that is now known as HSBC ,did I take my money out and go elsewhere? ,No ,I still bank there and the same people work there ,it's just a name yell

    Agreed, Husky.

Whether or not my membership fee should have been used to fund the change, I sure don't want it used to pay for a U turn. Time to leave it be.

Indeed it is only a name - but a name that will cost a substantial amount of money to change. For what purpose? All of us were perfectly aware that the club already embraced motorhome users,

The club management have refused to address (or avoided the question) of the anticipated costs of this change. I believe that the management are competent professionals so surely there would be a budget set to outline anticipated costs and increased income? But they refuse this information - telling us that the figures will be in next year's accounts. Personally I am doubtful.

By the way, I read the LinkedIn (however you spell it !!) profile of our esteemed Marketing Director, who I would assume played a large (the major ?) part in the changes. Does he also walk on water? !!

But surely this is just a head in the sand attitude? Put aside for one moment the cost or the new colours I think most reasonable members would accept that the change of name is more inclusive. Clearly the Club management came to the perfectly sensible conclusion that continuing with the use of just "caravan" in the Club name was likely to alienate motorhomers. They also realised that the one element of our hobby that was growing was the ownership of motorhomes whilst caravanning is at best static and perhaps the sense that it will start to reduce in number. Many motorhomers, like myself, have changed from being a caravanner. However many motorhomers have come straight into the hobby without a background of being caravan owners. Why would they think about joining something called the Caravan Club. It is in all our interests that our Club continues to grow and the minor change in name  is a small price to pay in order to help protect the Club for the future.

I agree entirely David.  Also, it has been reported that there has been a membership increase since the change of name, and that this increase has been identified as motorhomers joining the Club.

It was not the name change that I found annoying. It was all the meaningless hog wash and out of tune fanfare that accompanied this bright new world. That and the abysmal signage also I suppose but mainly the nonsensical hype that appears to be without substance.

I did not realise that my £49 per year gave me ownership of the club. I was under the impression that it just gave me access to the club services, in the same way that gym or book club membership works. Every day, as they say, is a school day.

With my newly discovered membership rights, I shall vote to retain the new name and logo.

I rang the club today to query my van insurance and I'm sure I heard a recorded massage say "The Caravan and Motorhome Club is the trading name of The Caravan Club"😳

Yes, you would. Limited companies very often trade under a different name. It's no big deal.

I like the new name, It's more inclusive.   Also it will be really easy to alter it to "The Campervan and Motorhome Club"  When caravans eventually die out in a few years time.

    wink

I can't follow your logic, Pageno. The Caravan Club Ltd is a legal entity in its own right. It trades as CAMC. Although it's not impossible to change the name of the Limited Company, it's nowhere near as simple as changing a trading name. Why would they want to change the Company name when only the trading name is in common use? I'd have been more surprised if they changed the official company registration.
