I think that one could expect such youngsters to refrain from smoking and drinking until they can afford it. Perhaps reduce their expenditure until it matches their income.
IE basic budgeting. I am aware locally of one or two that ought to do this rather than rely on the bank of mum and dad.
Not noticed a rush by them to get a 2nd job to help out with their finances as I and others have done in the past.
Still think the Govt. ought to really get the austerity programme under way and not give up on it.

I've just come in from a day out to read some truly appalling, vitriolic and ill informed comments about the "younger generation". I'm still in touch with many of the youngsters I taught over the last 20 years of my career - I meet them regularly walking their own children to school when we're out with the dogs.
I certainly don't recognise these descriptions of them as drinking/smoking, must-have-everything-now, which I've just seen. I can tell you that many of them are really struggling to make ends meet. They walk their children to school because they can't afford to run a second car; they pass uniforms down from one child to the next, they don't pay for expensive Sky TV contracts, they can't afford foreign holidays etc etc.This image is simply a myth.
Time for some on here to take a reality check I think!

Busy day today. 9 to 1 on duty at the Cathedral. Lots of really nice visitors today. As soon as I got home 9 year old grandson and 7 year old grand-daughter arrived. We took them to Mini Golf as they had requested. Unfortunately grandson is super competitive and it ended up in an argument and cries of 'it's not fair' so perhaps not the best decision 😕. Peace and friendship were restored after a drink and cake in the cafe 😊 Now exhausted!

Despite what I'd said earlier about the size they actually are the same size, I had thought it was squatter when I originally examined it, they have 34 pages rather than 32. Lots more security checks on pages and you have to sign the actual passport. Also 2 photos of you. I don't know that they'll let me in anywhere! Photo at the front rather than the back. It is the same maroon colour.

Wow milliehull busy day. But enjoyable 😉.
Clouded over and spots of rain whilst I was in town never amounted to anything because I bought a brolly in Poundland. Anyway birds will now be feasting again rather than the famine they may have had if I'd not replenished supplies 😂. Nice to see ex colleague and catch up on gossip. 4, including her, about to receive redundancy letters. Listening to the politics I'm so glad to be out 😆. I was part of natural wastage - not replaced and I lacked the will to hang on any longer, it had already been 4 years since my team were threatened 😂.
This site is so slow again tonight. 😤😭

Busy day today, got our LED lamps from Toolstation, so new outside light installation now complete.
OH went for shopping, I pottered in the garage, then moved the caravan so we could access side path.
SIL came at 5pm and helped me carry all 16 sleepers up the garden....actually he carried most of them!
Took him longer than I expected, he was worn out by the end, he reckons he is not as fit as he thought he was!
Then we got the old oven down into the car, we will dispose of it in the next few days.
Now need to move van back up driveway before someone walks into it.....it must be 20cm over the pavement.

Yes brilliant.
We had to get rid of our paper ones 5 years back as required photo licence to hire vehicles in NZ. We had used paper ones before so there must have been some change, can't remember. Dislike the fact that they expire after 10 years after being told they were life time ones when the red book ones went. I still have my red one and my driving lessons card 😉

Gosh I wish parked vehicles here only overhung their drives by so little. When I walked into town today one was parked on the drive, you'd be hard pressed to get an original mini on the drive 😯. It took the drive and whole pavement width. Good job I'm not blind 😤😤😤.
Big discussions on local radio about this issue for blind as they use their canes to tap walls and pavements and bad parking is causing some to be unable to leave their homes. Same with parking cars half or more on the pavement insufficient room for prams or wheelchairs. Sadly no action taken by the authorities even when the matter is raised. If you mention it to a 'parker' they just shrug their shoulders and walk away. Sadly I'm not pushing a part these days and luckily no wheelchair pushing since dad passed, then I wouldn't let it go so easily.
Oh there must be something in the air on this site today 😉😂😂

Great news re Passports Bakers, .Quick service.
Got into town finally this morning, had to be quick as running late, picked up dog food on way home too. Work this afternoon and left hubby working in bathroom.
not sure if he'll keep the pace up!

Between Christmas and new year. But I don't like the thought that I can't go quickly if I need to. For the past 10 years I have a suitcase mentally packed 😂 although I probably wouldn't bother with much other than passport and cards if there was an emergency 😉

Good idea to have passports at the ready 'just in case' bakers2. I like to have mine up to date in case anything happens when family are abroad on holiday.

If you're not planning on holidaying abroad or are likely to need one at short notice I wouldn't worry. They expire every 10 years 😉. Save your money!

It looks like another day of showers, interspersed with the odd bit of sunshine.
Meanwhile, work on upgrading our milking parlour continues, with maybe the end in sight at the end of the week (or next week). The engineers have been very good, working between milkings and always leaving the essential bits working.
This photo was taken this morning. The cows have transponders in their ears and will pass by a reader that transmits the data to the computer in the dairy. When we have entered all the details, this will know how much cake to dispense from the feeders, and also record individual milk yields.
To make sure the cows are read correctly, there is a new race in the collecting yard to encourage them the right way.

My mother, now in her late eighties is puzzled as to why her grandchildren cannot buy a house.
When my parents were young,( early thirties ) and I was in short trousers, I can clearly remember us living in a brand new 3 bed semi, having a brand new Hillman Minx, and then they bought a brand new Bessacarr caravan. Which got me into this game in the first instance. They were ordinary working people, they both actually worked for the coal board, mum in the office, dad underground, but they could buy a house car and caravan brand new in the early 60s.. Now that house prices are artificially inflated and everything else is, in real terms, so much more expensive, and minimum wage jobs with short hours everywhere... What salaries or occupations these days would buy what they had in their 30s.. not many I would suggest.
